Bending plastic? (1 Viewer)

Probably wrong place but does anyone know how to put a slight curve on a small piece of clear 2mm polycarb plastic.I have tried over flame/hot air gun /boiling water but it wont stay bent ! Am trying the oven next!

Hot air gun is the way I do it. You do need to get it fairly warm, but don't stop in one place as you will get blistering. When you bend it you may need to bend it a little bit further than the angle you want it to end up as it will come back a little.

Heat both sides of the bend line equally.

Same as gromett, but when it's bent cool it straight away in a bath of water, but make sure you put the hot air gun down first :eek:

im a not so newbie
I once bent a dark piece of polycarbonate over my mums electric hob.
It curved in both planes top to bottom and side to side.
It was the rear screen for a Consul Capri :)
G clamped it to the old screen and away I went.
Bloody heavy though.

I let it air cool and it held its shape well.
Those were the days of customising :D
