Hi
My husband and I are total noobs, we are hiring a van (chausson 02/04) next week to travel through France and Italy to see if we like motorhoming. We are thinking if we like it and buy a van it would have to be suitable to lend out in the family for a family of two adults and two or three kids but still be really easily driveable on an ordinary licence. What do people recommend? (We liked the Wildaxes at the show we went to.)

You may have to stay under 3500kg Max weight depending on driving licence I think it's C1 that is required, doing that in a 5 berth might be an issue.

A better option would be for family to take the additional test if required.

Welcome, the issue referred to above is to do with available weight / payload with five people in, obviously reducing as the three children get older, along with the total weight of the van when fully loaded with fuel and water and all the other odds and sods that fill up the available space.

Do pay attention to this weight.

You could, to get an idea, take the hired van to a weighbridge ?
