Wonder what thoughts people might have about my situation. I've been living abroad since 2003, and just returned to the UK. Will be buying a moho as soon as the Covid19 thing allows. I'm expecting problems with insurance as I have no UK NCD. Just tried for an online quote from SAGA who declined to quote without any real explanation, although I can guess.

Any thoughts as to my best hope of getting a decent premium quote?

Thanks in advance, and don't tell me I shouldn't have come back..... :giggle:

Gocompare.com

Been there and found the same.

I'd phone with a chance to explain rather than search for quotes online.
If you don't fit any of their online parameters you'll just a get a message: 'Unable to quote. Please phone nnnnnnnnn'

Phone a REPUTABLE broker/insurer when you eventually get back..

I always find if you talk to a human being you can do better than all these compere sites.. (y)

Yeah, that's what I got from SAGA. How did you get on in the end?

I'm already back actually! Any suggestions re a broker? I was thinking that I need to speak with someone rather than waste hours getting rejected by robots.

Andrew

Yes before buying anything I would be speaking to brokers as many, the first thing they require is a UK licence ,held for the past 3 years! If you exchanged for a EU one it could cause problems. It shouldn't but usually with UK insurance companies it will.

NFU are not the cheapest but excellent in cases like this. Will take your previous euro insurance record as proof to give no claims

Our son has recently returned from 6 years working and living in Europe. 4 years in Munich and 2 years in Geneva. His UK insurance broker excepted his EU NCB here in the UK on proof of NCB in Germany and Switzerland.

Are you back for good , do you have a permanent address, are you on the election register and have a bank account at your home address , as soon as these are in place it will be easier. good luck in your search, when using a broker make sure they are not 'tied' and ca search the whole market. If they are tied they can only use certain companies

As mentioned earlier Comfort insurance are brokers they specialise in motorhomes. 0800 0304 206.

i lost my no claims many moons back ( dont ask ) they insured me and gave a good price as cheap as i had when i had full no claims. been with them since for m/home and the cost has been roughly the same every year.

I was insuring the car (the AA), m/home (Comfort) and two motorbikes (Peter James Classic Insurance). I got nowhere online but it was straightforward when actually speaking to insurers.

AIB -Talk to them on the phone, assuming you're registered/voters roll/uk bank and UK driving licence
If you use the search facility for AIB you'll see a recent thread.
Good luck

We lived in New Zealand for a few years. I had the same worries. I needn't of worried. It was no problem at all. Insurers want your business. Made no difference.

Give Adrian Flux a call - 0344-381-6502

Brokers rather than insurers and you get to speak to real people

Only issue with trying to use previous NCD is if it's in use on another vehicle (eg car) it will usually be disregarded for a MH, some 'may' mirror it but most don't.

I was in a similar position without any NCD. Drove for 15 yrs as the main driver on my wifes policy as she had max NCD.
Comfort turned up with the best deal for me to insure a new purchase MH.

Not sure about what part of the world you are in but your prior insurer may provided a certificate or letter stating whether you had any claims etc. Certainly UK ones are valid in France and vice versa so it’s reasonable to assume they would be acceptable from other countries.
That's true enough but some countries don't seem to do NCD the same way we do. Like you say though showing valid certificates and not having claims helps.

That was going to be my idea.
The OP should try using proof of car ownership history.
Slightly different but if you’ve been a company car driver several insurers take that NCD history as proof of accumulated years accident free.
