Surf's up! Paul got loads of waves today as it wasn't too big or crowded.

Nice one, the good thing about bodyboarding is every wave is overhead and seems bigger. Have fun and catch a wave for me. (y)

Update. I had a go the next day. Only one wave as I'm not so confident and the conditions weren't as good. It was lovely to be in the ocean again.

We've had a pretty chilled week since last posting. Some nice walks along the cliffs for wave watching, headed out to Barao de Sao Joao near Lagos where we'd seen a sign on the main road for a mountain bike trail centre. They had obviously had a bit of investment recently with a bike washing/tool station, board with various routes marked and paper maps to take.

We followed a route of 14 miles. All the routes were xc rather than technical trails and though it was good to get out on the bikes for some exercise the countryside, as with elsewhere in Southern Portugal, is a tad monotonous with small scrubby pines and lots of eucalyptus. No mud though which is a bonus this time of year!

DSC_6254.JPG

The route took us through the village at the end and it had a very alternative, hippy sort of vibe with various plots of land looking like they'd been taken on for an off grid lifestyle with numerous live in vehicles parked up in varying states of decay. The local bar was doing a roaring trade being a sunny Saturday afternoon and it felt like everyone turned their eyes to follow us as we cycled by.

After our ride we headed into Lagos for a drink and lots of sushi as a treat. Caught a beautiful duel sunset and moon rise with huge moon.

We've had a showery but very mild couple of days now and today has been nothing but torrential rain, flooding our pitch. It's due to be rainy for another couple of days and hopefully brightening up for Christmas day. I hope so as I'm cooking a roast chicken in the bbq with all the trimmings cooked in the van so don't want to be shut up in a steam box!

Tomorrow is dentist day for both of us in Praia de Luz where i had an emergency extraction last year. Just a check up for me and Paul needs a few things fixing. It's such a nicer and cheaper experience out here than back in the UK so we are dental tourists now. We may go to the cinema in Lagos afterwards to see the new Matrix film.

Lucky you! Have a great time. You are in my favourite place again, looking forward to going back end of February, but not in the van.

Please be careful on those west coast beaches, they don’t publicise the number of folk who get into difficulties, only the ones who drown. I know you are experienced, careful, sensible, aware etc. Lecture over!!! :xsmile::xsmile:

Will do. We're doing a fraction of the surfing we did last time we were here. 4 months here last time with restrictions on movements meant there wasn't much else to do but get super into the surfing but this time it's a flying visit so only getting out for a few surf's in Sagres when it's smaller. Not got any surf fitness or braveness built up this year.

Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for following Beech's tour.

After a stormy night of wind and rain we've lucked out for our Christmas weather as it's now a beautiful 19 degrees with a light breeze. I'm very relieved after several wet days as I'm cooking the chicken in the bbq to save the oven for stuffing and roasties.

We had a light breakfast of smoked salmon and eggs over looking Beliche beach and the lighthouse then back to crack on with the dinner. The main prep done we're now sunbathing and had to put up a sun shade for Beech.

We're all stuffed and have enough left overs for 3 days! Had 4 people round for a christmas bevie as the sun went down. 2 German's and a Brit couple who live on site in a chalet. Nice to have some company as it's been a lot quieter on the campsite compared to last year.

Amazing rock formations.
They are. It really puts things into perspective for me when I see the great forces and huge time span involved in shaping our world.

Well it's been a lovely 3 week stay in Sagres but the new year will see us heading off to Spain in the morning. The last week has been especially lovely as the weather has been stunning. We've both got our teeth fixed in Praia de Luz, had some nice beach time, walks and lot's of wave watching then today we treated ourselves to beer and burgers at our fav bar for NYE/leaving.

After a pleasant overnight by the botanical Gardens in Huelva we are on our way to Seville! Very exciting after 3 weeks chilling at the end of the world. We're headed to an aire about 30 minutes walk along the river to the city centre. Any must sees in Seville?

Christopher Columbus stayed at the Franciscan monastery here whilst planning his journey to America. There are many monuments scattered about to this historical figure including replicas of his ship.

You are lucky. We have tried twice to get into Seville and stay at the Aire close by and twice failed. First time was the last weekend of the Festival, and could not get anywhere near it. Two years later we tried again, and guess what ......... the bloody Festival again.    Mind you we made up for it by going both times to El Roccio instead (y) (y)

Note to myself, check when the festival is next time we try.

Plaza Europa,Park Maria Luisa, Cathedral and Giralda, Real Alcazar.Museoa de Bella's Arte's if your into that.
Tapas everywhere but Triana and Calle San Jacinto our favourites. Los Gollondrinas, tucked away in a side street is our favourite, they opened another one on Pages del Corro further up but not the same atmosphere.
There is motorhome parking a little nearer the centre at Parking Las Razas but it is a commercial lorry/coach park never found it a problem though, waste water and if lucky electricity for €15.
Love Seville
