No, just need to adjust the dip one for flat dipping.
If the unit is the newer type Hella just move the leaver at the Back of the light unit.
If the Hella Classic you have to loosen 3 screws and rotate it.

Lenny is right.

What he doesn’t mention is just how big a bitch of a job it is to get at the back of the unit on most A class vans :D2

I’ve never bothered adjusting mine.

Hi,Kitch I have round headlights and you slacken them off at the back and turn a bit and they stop at the set place but your van is more modern and may have a lever in situ what make of van is it .

Two minute job on mine.
Most people set them for flat dipping and leave them permanently like it.
If your van is a UK supplied LHD it will be set for flat dipping.

Hi thanks for the reply's, it is a 2018 adria sonic.
When have you ever seen a foreign vehicle in the UK using beam deflectors and I've looked ?

Are you going to be driving at night while abroad ?

Not normally, but we arrive in France at about 11pm so I will need to get to the cite de Europe to bed down for the night.

If it has a leveaver you have to take the rubber cover of the back of the lamp and it's around the back of the reflector.

There isn't a rubber cover, it seems to be a sealed unit, do you think the E5 hex would have something to do with it? with the 2 long bolts at the top.

Don't think the E5 is anything to do with it.
Looks like a screw on each side that releases the plastic cover.

On and off for many years.
Really interesting and useful thread :)

I've just had a look at ours (they are not the round Hella lights).

There is a round rubber cover at the back of the light (really difficult to access of course) but under the cover I can't easily find a lever and I don't want to poke around too much. Looking at the lights I think they may have a "flat beam" but we will have a proper look once we are on our way, just to check if there is a bias for dipped main beam.

We do have the stick on deflector things if necessary (not put them on so far).

It might not be a lever. I seem to remember reading that it’s grub screws on mine but I’ve never bothered looking so I don’t know for sure.

People have said, you never see any Euopeen vehicle's with them on.

Never changed our lights when we were abroad, is the EU law still in place that all vehicles should have dipped headlights in the day, not seen any change myself but might have missed it.

If it is grub screws there isn't space to get to them!!!

As far as I know it is still a requirement in some countries.

On our van which was a Fiat base I just bought some stick on things and slapped them on. I didn't do it as per the instructions. They stayed on for 5 years and no problem with MOT.

Probably because I had applied them so poorly they didn't affect the beam:whistle:

I just put them on for the benefit of French and Spanish plod.

I haven't bothered with the car.

I do have my 18 warning triangles, 16 safety vests, and 8 breathalyser kits though:rolleyes:

The law in most European countries is that visiting vehicles in the country for less than 90 days. Must have the beams adjusted so as not to dazzel oncoming vehicles, With the kick up to the left which modern vehicles have unlikely to be able to do that and still have a beam that would be of any use without built in adjustment or deflectors.

If you have plastic headlamps could work out very expensive. They are designed only to be left on for a few weeks. Leave them on too long and the adhesive migrates into the plastic and wrecks the lens.

Do you really want to go to through the hassle for a less than 2 mile journey to Cite de Europe when the roads are going to be empty
I don't see the relevantance of that just because someone else breaks the law it does not give you the right too.

So are you really whiter than white then ???

If all else fails check the handbook.

We do need the stick on beam deflectors :)

That is that question answered, we'll put them on when we get to Canterbury.
