We are thinking of buying a new gas BBQ
We’ve seen a NEXGRILL table top which looks fine.
Has anyone got one of these?
Ideally we are looking for a gas BBQ that’s not too heavy around £200 or less
Recommendations gratefully received.
Thanks.

Not at your end of the market, but I just use the portable Asda one. Usually around £30-£45. It's cheap, but it works. Obviously, an expensive one will be better, but I'm not sure it will be 7 times better.

I would venture that the best BBQ is the one you use most.

I've seen folk buy all sorts of fancy bits of kit with chimneys, lids, smoke boxes, ashpits, lids with temperature guages, fans and goodness knows what else, that are only used once or twice a month with pretty poor results due to lack of practice and basic understanding of how to cook on fire.

We use a simple open tray with a 4 position rack around 18 inches wide and 10 to 12" deep (front to back). Used 4 or 5 times a week every week and only needs a few handful of proper large charcoal lumps (nb not garage bought charcoal shards and dust). Bigger / expensive does not always equate to best.

The one I used the most was at university. It was made using cracked concrete slabs and bricks we found in the back garden with the grille being an old fridge shelf from the fridge that had set itself on fire shortly after we moved in. Best BBQ I've ever used, we even used it in February at 1am, although it did burn through a lot a charcoal in subzero temperatures.

I've just looked up the Nexgrill ... it's one of the ugliest BBQs I've ever seen! Sorry! :whistle2:

Having had many types of gas BBQs/griddles over the years the think that one of the best portable ones you can get is the type with an attached lid which has a warming rack built into it, you can use it with the lid up or down to keep food moist and/or cook it quicker. After use everything is kept 'inside' when the lid is closed so no worry about any grease etc escaping (kept upright of course) - we just used a large shopping bag which it was plopped into once cool, I don't think the one we have is made now but I've found the below one at Asda, it's out of stock for online ordering but you'll probably find it in a local store as the ones near me have them in, it's a fantastic price and whilst it won't last for donkey's years at the price you could buy one to use and a spare for when it eventually gives up the ghost (or you get fed up of trying to get all the grease off! after a few years):

There's also this one on Ebay which is similar:

We only stopped taking it when started to do a lot more 'wild' camping/aires where most of the time you can't BBQ outside however we have a suitcase type one which we do take with us on the odd occasion so that if we want to BBQ and can't do it next to the MH (eg on an aire) we can take it to the beach instead, it runs off the cheap aerosol type canisters. It is quick and easy to use and gives a good taste to the food as it is cooked on a wire rack rather than a griddle place, no messing about having to clean it up totally as it has its own 'suitcase', I can't find the exact one we have but there are some others which are similar:

Here...

I’ve the small Cadac safari and zero complaints... not one for suggesting what I’ve purchased is the best... light, packs into small bag, cleans easily and fits our needs

Whilst I use a Cadac Safari Chef when out and about in the PVC it is not a BBQ. No gas fired thingy can be considered a BBQ.

A BBQ needs charcoal, and not just the charcoal of your cremated foodstuff. But charcoal units are problematic. It takes often hours too cool down so you can't pack away. Unless a big unit, there are limits on adjustability of the grill shelf height relative to the unit size. The disposable type BBQ units are costly with a limited cooking window. Minxy Girl 's links look like reasonable options, but for something non adjustable suited to 1 / 2 person meals you may find these style flat packing units work well (just take care that the vents to allow air into the charcoal also allows embers to fall on the ground Amazon product ASIN B01CI2SDSS

As a big BBQ guy who made the move to a charcoal Kamado and never looked back im also thinking of what BBQ to take with us on adventures.

this looks to be winning so far, got a gas grille in the van :winky:

Charbroil grill to go . Only used once upto now seems good
Try again.. like your style... looked at that myself and the Broil King but end up with the Napoleaon travel grill in the end. TRAVEL christ it weighs a ton but cooks whole turkeys at Christmas.

Weber Q1000. I've had it for a number of years and it's one of the best bits of kit I've bought in a long time. It doesn't take up much room in the garage or camper van.

Yes, it's pricey. But as with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Having taken one with us one time (charcoal bucket type) it was good, but what do you do / how to store a greasey BBQ?

No matter how I cleaned still had some residue and fatty smell and didn't want to just having it sat in the box in the cupboard or garage area???
