This is just a 'heads up':
Several battery thefts from caravans have been reported to Police in the West Midlands recently.
The practice may spread, so be alert...
If you are offered a cheap one, be suspicious...

I'm utterly amazed that low lives would bother breaking in to either a caravan or moho and searching under all the seats to find a battery that weighs half a ton. I mean if you're happy and come equipped to cause all the damage needed in order to even get into said van - wouldn't it be a lot easier and quicker to just crowbar a car bonnet up?

Since 2008 & many years tugging
Leisure batteries are normally heavier than car ones more scrape value, caravan lockers easier to break into especially the Thetford ones. Motorhome ones a bit more secure.

The op does say caravans though, useually in the locker at the front, easy to get at without actually getting in the van.

The battery locker on a caravan is easy to spot and access. Even dealers don't always know where the batteries are on a m/h.

I've put a couple of old ones out the front of my house hoping someone will nick them to save me lugging them to the dump but no one has yet...

When I took the scrap from refurbishing and replumbing daughters flat
All they wanted for a cheque was utility bill I assume you can be checked via bank account if there is a legal( theft) problem

But with a drivers licence and utility bill they write a cheque out
if she had of wanted cash they cash it on site
Via cheque cashing scheme for 2% under £50.00
Or free over £50.00

Plenty of thefts of batteries from farms around here, unfortunately. They're even targeting the ones on the electric fences keeping livestock contained in the fields :(
