Wilding in euro land last 2 wks , heater on in short bursts also fridge on permanent , if liesure batteries at rest /settled, say 12.6 v , I take that as nigh on fully charged why is it percentage readings only 70 % which is the best guide to state of batteries ?

I’m looking for a dedicated monitor if one is available that just wired direct to battery, would like one gives a percentage reading showing how much power left in battery

Leakylunar....I have just installed a BM-2. Does exactly what you ask...£106 delivered from VisionMarine.

?? There’s a voltage reading on the Sargent unit but like a visual on battery power that’s left so I don’t diss charge to much.

Battery monitors often need syncing regualy otherwise the percentage readings go way out. Also depends on the type of battery.

Many thax for reply , how do you sync the monitor ? Or should I just take for gospel the reading of main battery , ie 12.7 as correct ? Cheers

That’s the problem I have with Sargent unit voltage reading anything above 11.9v classed as ‘Good’ for the battery.

We've got the BM2 too. Love it. Never needs syncing and always accurate, loads of info available, even the starter battery voltage, which is handy because that is under no load so the voltage you see relates to it's state of charge ?

Go for the BM1 though, it's exactly the same but only goes up to 100a (only ?)

Many many thax Lenny will try it tomorrow when home

Bought one of these "12V Car Battery Monitor Bluetooth BM2 Voltage Meter Battery Tester Analyzer" on eBay. Various re-sellers. Cost range £18 - £25 depending on who you buy from and whether p&p included. Easy fit across battery terminals. Download smartphone App for bluetooth readout, including voltage level when engine cranking, alternator effectiveness when engine idling/revving and of course % charge for battery type as derived from voltage measurement at the battery terminals. Does not show current in/out as some of the more expensive devices mentioned above.

It's virtually impossible to measure remaining battery capacity when there is a load on the battery and if your getting 70% at 12.6 V you have nothing to worry about.
