Hi, looking to put in inverter to run a small microwave and a kettle, can someone suggest a suitable inverter and battery for my needs, also can anyone recommend someone in cambridgeshire who could wire it in for me,van is a 2007 citroen relay

before that question can be answered we really need some more information, what size in Watts is the microwave, and how much use will it get, what sized kettle in Watts. Also how are you going to charge the battery. Do you have solar, or B2B charger how many leisure batteries do you have.
Why would you use an electric kettle when you have gas. A battery is not and endless supply of power a kettle or microwave will flatten it very quickly unless you have sufficient batteries and a means to charge them.
Hi Chatteris, I really wouldn't recommend running either of those from inverter. To give an idea how much power a 2000w kettle will use the formula is watts divided by volts = amps. In other words 2000w / 12v = 167a. bearing in mind a battery generally shouldn't be discharged more than 50% this would flatten a 100a battery in about 15 minutes.
I do know someone who has successfully fitted a microwave but the electrics needed were eye watering. From memory he has 4 x 100a batteries, 300w of solar, a 1000w sine wave inverter (an expensive one) and I think 50mm battery cables.

I use mains toaster, kettle 1.1kw, tv and dyson with no problem (not all at once) 2kw pure sin inverter 2x130amh batteries 240w of solor and b2b never had a problem........yet
You probably don't need the inverter for the laptop either. Look into getting a 12V charger for it. There are plenty around that will convert the 12V to the 18V (or so) your laptop uses. You jsut need to know the plug size and type and exact voltage and then do a search on something like Ebay or Amazon. Again a lot cheaper and a lot more efficient than converting 12V to 240V then back down to 18V.
