Should my chausson 628eb 2017 charge the engine battery whilst plugged into the mains

Check the voltage across the terminals of your engine battery with meter with the mains off and check again with the mains plugged in.
If the voltage of your engine battery goes up with the mains on then yes and of it does not the no.

The OP's question was "should it charge the battery".

I imagine that he already knows that it doesn't. Hence the question.

Don't know about Chausson as we have a Swift but the only way our vehicle battery is charged on mains is when I switch it over on the control panel. It can only charge one battery at a time.

Yes, it should.
The charger may be turned off or a breaker may have tripped.
If you have a multimeter check the leisure battery voltage both on hookup and off hookup.
If the voltage on hookup is higher than off its charging the battery.
If it stays the same it isn't charging.

Probably. What does it say in the handbook? Mine dies so I assumed they all do,but it’s foolish of me to assume…..probably. :giggle:

I’d suggest it depends on what electrical system chausson have used in your particular van when it was built, but here is an extract from a chausson manual for a van fitted with a CBE Pc 150 or Pc 180 control system.

see the note about B1 (engine battery) and also the warnings…..

As already suggested check your own set up with a multi meter or check with the manual supplied with the van.
