Battery charger

A solar panel ...

For use off the vehicle or for integration/use on the vehicle?

Ian

I have installed a Victron (the latest ones are called blue smart)

It is small, generates little or no heat and no noise

I plugged it into a convenient 240v socket near my leisure battery and connected it up with ring terminals to the battery

When I connect to EHU or my Generator, the Victron does it's job - it's been in place for about 4 years and so has my single 110Ah battery and its all working fine

Hope this helps

Can anyone recommend a good battery charger for a leisure battery.

Cheers.
What type of leisure battery? There are a few different chemistries such as Gel, AGM, wet. Plus the expensive lithium type (unlikely in this case ?)

It says on my Optimate 2 it's for all types, and it is if you aren't that bothered. But a Gel battery needs holding longer at 14.4v to fully charge.
There is more than one battery charger that does all Leisure Batteries. The C-Tec range are second to none I.M.O.

To work out the maximum charging current (amps), find the total leisure battery capacity in amp-hours (Ah) and divide by 5. So a 100Ah battery max charging current is 20A. Some battery types, like Lithium, can take a higher charging current, but Capacity/5 is a good rule of thumb. Of course you can use one with less amps than this, it will charge just as well but will just take longer.
