Battery charger / split charge relay (1 Viewer)

Hi guys got a question

should my split charge relay open when I have a battery charger connected to my leisure battery as I have noticed it comming on when the battery charger is on. If this is normal will it be Charing my van battery as well.

That doesn’t seem right. Unless it’s a battery master type that is meant to do so.

It would be more normal if it was the other way round......One of my vans would open the Durite vsr if I hooked a mains charger up to the van battery, thus also charge the leisure battery.

I think you mean close, i.e. close the contacts.

Hi Tonydom

On my self built VW T4 camper, I had a voltage sensing split charge relay which was bi-directional, ie if it was on hookup, the higher voltage on the leisure battery would trigger the VSR and charge the engine battery, and conversely if a charger was put onto the starter battery, the VSR would trigger and charge the leisure battery as well.

Think about it, it's a handy feature if the charger is powerful enough to charge both simultaneously as in 10% of the combined capacity or more

Thanks guys I had an idea that the charger would charge the leisure battery if connected to van battery I had no idea that it could work in reverse

yes i think most vsrs are bidirectional

Yes it’s normal I have fitted loads of the attached pic and they do this.
