Hola you good folks and those not so good too . My dealer has let my leisure battery run down to 4.4v and my vehicle battery run down to 0v. Are they both knackered or OK? Have they reduced their working life?

I¡d be surprised if you can get the vehicle battery to recover & the other won't be good for too long even if you get it recharged.

I would say they are totally FUBAH to be honest

You did not say why a dealer had charge of your MH.

How did it happen?

I would say the batteries are definitely knackered ...

..... as would be my relationship with that dealer if it were my MH.

If it his fault he must replace them.

Really, not happy with that. Should I ask them to replace them? Cheers for the quick response (y)

Didn’t think it was relevant to be honest, sorry. They were doing warranty work. My relationship with them is not very good, they are twits. Thanks (y)

Definitely need replacement.
Expensive mistake, make sure dealer fits the appropriate quality batteries, not just any old cheap replacements to save money.

If they damaged a wing they would have to fix it
If they damaged a cupboard they would have to fix it
If they damaged the heating, they would have to fix it
They have damaged the batteries so must fix them
Whilst the van is in their possession they have a duty of care.. which they have failed dismally to keep to

Time to name and shame. I'm from up that way and there isn't much of them on the go that I can think of.

I'm not disagreeing with all the replies so far and its not an ideal situation...but you don't say if the batteries were left in that state for any length of time..
I would have thought that if recovered immediately there is some hope.. More so if the batteries are in good condition to start with..
I'd certainly be giving it a go and checking the capacities... Inconvenient ..yes ..but worth trying..
Andy..

Sorry to but in but to save anew thread I can't understand the 4.4 charge my batteries have gone down to on my reading 11.7 after standing about a month have a 140 solar but low on Sun am charging them now but don't know if they will last they are banner 120s 5yrs old thanks for any comments

They may well come up after a charge and look fine but their life will have been considerably reduced. I certainly wouldn't have any confidence in them & would insist on the dealer changing them.

Not really.. Once a battery has been taken to collapse, even if just for second, then it is compromised to the point it is either useless or severely reduced in life at the very least

Whether partly or fully knackered, the dealer did it, so you will be very lucky if he replaces them and if he does it will be from his old stock.

Looking on the bright side, about 3 years ago our Honda scooter battery went as flat as a pancake, and was probably flat for a good few days. I charged it up and it's still going OK today.
I know, I know... It doesn't have to do much, but it whips the engine over, even when it doesn't like starting (after a short journey)

If I hadn't had a similar experience on more than one occasion I wouldn't have commented..
I've had vehicle batteries so flat they wouldn't light the dash light.. Like that for a matter of hours only I suspect..but recovered and used after the discharge with no apparent problem..
So it can still be used if my experience is anything to go by...
I think its got more to do with how soon its recovered.

You did not say whether the warranty is a manufacturer's warranty, a dealer's warranty or one you bought yourself.

You did not leave anything running, e.g. heating when you took it in did you?

I think that unless the dealer agrees very soon to replace the batteries like for like then you should proceed as follows, by starting a paper trail, but confining it only to the battery subject and not convulating it with other warranty issues, which might need a separate one. Find out the name of the CEO/M-D and address the e-mails to him.

Firstly, send an e-mail summarising what you have been told and how you have responded so far. If there is no contradiction of your understanding then that will stand as the position to date.

Then either deal only by e-mail, or if by phone then follow up with e-mail stating what was said.

If the warranty is a manufacturer's one, find the name of the director responsible for dealers and copy him with all e-mails - this will alert the dealer that his handling of a customer's warranty work is not up to scratch in that he is not taking care of a vehicle in for warranty work.

This may seem onerous but it could -

a) stand you in good stead for any claim if the problem is not resolved soon

b) put pressure on the dealer to resolve the issue if he sees you taking it seriously enough to proceed this way.

You could add that this problem is being discussed on open MH forum, without naming which one and without stating whether you have named the dealer, yet.

I hope it is resolved soon. If the dealer is resisting your request for replacement invite him to explain why on here - then we can all give him a good verbal kicking.

I don't know how long they have been depleting or at the voltages stated although. I have only been getting e-mail reports this week though. Perthsire Caravans have the Motorhome for repairs (since oct 25th). Since I reported to them that both batteries have been depleted they have all of a sudden asked me to pick up my motorhome because they can't keep it on charge. Further, they tell me that I need to remove it between 19th Dec and 6th of Jan because a part I need will not be delivered by then. One e-mail to Auto-Trail and they are expediting a delivery for next week. Why did PC not do that? I am now suspicious of the whole thing now. Their service is crap big time.

It is a manufacturers warranty. I have asked three times if the batteries are ruined because they have been allowed to fully discharge. I have not had one direct response to my question. The latest response at 1pm yesterday from the warranty advisor was “I am advised that your van batteries are currently on charge” so again, no answer to my question. They have charged my leisure battery and it now shows 12.9v without EHU. The vehicle battery only shows 2.6v around 23 hours after being put on charge. I will ask the question again and copy in the director.

Cheers,

Steve.

Just looked at my emails again. I have asked six times about the condition of the batteries without a response. Oh ma heed :doh:
