The bathroom door hinge screws have come loose and they need replacing. Does anyone know how to make them more secure as there is very little thickness to the panel they screw into without them coming through to the inside of the bathroom.
Thanks
Maureen

Fill hole with wood, mat stick, wooden barbecue scewer. With or without wood glue and tighten but not overtight.

I always carry a box of cocktail sticks and break them to size to fill in hole and then lightly tighten screws.

put a dab of araldite n the hole and put screw in but not overtight. allow araldite to cure before using the door
once set, the araldite, screw and wood are fused together

I wouldn't want to have it that permanent; maybe add araldite or pva glue to the hole & matchstick but allow to dry before screwing in - you never know when you may need to dismantle things in the future.

you can unscrew them later if needed but they take a little moving

Is it possible to nut and bolt with washers or a nice tidy plate through the wood? If you have access to both sides that is.

A rawlplug. That's what they're for, fixings in materials that crumble.
Rawlpugs are generally used for brick/masonary, probably find the board being screwed into is only 18mm max maybe less, therefore unsuitable for a rawlplug

Get some that are the right length, or, cut them to length. That's what I do. It's all that people using match sticks are doing.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Think will try the rawlplugs - have seen some called plasplugs for hollow wood doors so they may be ok. Yes problem is that the board to screw into is hollow and narrow so not sure about matchsticks as they may just fall into the hollow bit. Will give it a go and let you know which solution works. This forum really is a gem for pooling knowledge and ideas. Thanks.

Can you post a picture of the door and hinge area? I would be surprised if the door was hollow where the hinge is.

Hi could you drill the holes bigger (make sure you dont go through) then glue some dowel rod in with areldite
then refit with orginial screws that way you can always remove the door if needed

Have filled holes with wire wool and the screws have gripped the wire wool and they feel tight at the moment so will see how it goes. If they go again will get full length piano hinge. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, as always so helpful.

sorry to burst your bubble, but wire wool will rust because of the steam in the bathroom and cause problems like rust and stain marks

Am hoping this won't happen as the holes are on the outside and there are no holes on inside. Also haven't used bathroom as shower ony use toilet and sink but thanks and will keep an eye on it.
It's good to get the for's and against's.

From pics it looks like you can drill right through the wall. If this is the case then do it and fit bolts with washers or a plate with holes drilled.
You can get countersunk bolts and spring washers for hinge side.
