We've decided to wander from our beloved South of France when we start hols next week. Love Barcelona so intending to spend 5 days on a campsite and travel into Barcelona 3 out of the 5 days, (it's our hols so we don't want aires, want lovely pools etc). Can't decide between camping 3 estrellas and camping Barcelona. Some blurb said no security on the C Barcelona one and strangers wander in from the beach ? Anyone had any experiences of either ? I know we can get a bus from C Barcelona and at 3 estrallas there's apparently a bus stop very nearby ?

Also Girona looks interesting anyone been there ? We'd probably drive into there. Tarragona we're desperate to see due to roman remains but know nothing about it so any campsites near the water/remains would be great, (ACSI). Again just wanting personal experience. So any help thanks. Also if there's anywhere else inbetween Tarragona and Perpignan that may be medieval, roman or very pretty, please recommend. Thank you :)

Its a bit further out but we always stated at Santa Suzanna, camping Bon Repos.. Right on the beach and the train into Barcelona passes the camp gate, station a 5 min walk..

Plus you have the popular resort of Malgrat nearby. Not been for a few years.

On Facebook today, someone has posted about a new aire at Girona. It's on the search for sites website.

Roses is a nice place to visit.. Roman remains and a nice town with small streets to wander around.

Just got back from a trip which included Tarragona, we stayed at La Llosa campsite in Cambrils (No. 2739 Acsi Book) and caught a train into Tarragona - 10 min walk, 2.85 euros each single.

Ah ! Thank you so much for that, had been looking around that area too.

We use a services for a few hours kip on the way down south, however, we don't tend to use aires for our hols. They're our main hols so we like to sit out and read, eat lunch, use the loungers by the pools, leave bikes etc.

Girona is fabulous! We spent a couple of days there in the spring. There's a very good aire within easy walking distance of the city. (See Campercontact). The only problem is that it is enclosed by tall buildings, and there's no shade at all. Even in March it was too hot to go out during the day and leave the dog in the van, even for short time.
If you have no dog, I'd thoroughly recommend.

Well, we did it in a day, more or less, given the problems of leaving the dog. The whole town is amazing! Everything is old and unspoilt. It depends how much depth you want to go into. We felt that we just skimmed the surface and will be going back again.
