Thinking of going to Bala lake, Bala North Wales, would welcome any tips on campsites/ stopovers in the region if anyone has visited that area lately..

I drove past it yesterday on my way home from Shell Island. And I really did comment "Not a lot going on there".

My advice, keep going to Shell Island. Now that is spectacular if the weather is kind.

We have stayed here http://www.balalakecamping.co.uk/ and it is very nice and only a short walk into Bala.

As has been said, not a lot going on there, but a pleasant enough place to be based.

You can stay in the woods by the lake past the boat house.

Really????

Well I drove past on the main road and don't recall any boats or bodies in the water. As lakes go it's very much an under achiever. Bala itself was quiet but well geared up for extracting the tourist pound.

Of course some like quite holidays, I prefer the bustle of Windermere though.

It's a nice quiet site, but nothing else within walking distance. Short drive into Bala. We had a great day parked up by the lake, just out of the town. Big carpark. Hired a kayak for a few hours.
