I've managed the dough and baked the bread but not produced anything edible because ,so far, its always burnt on the bottom and tastes of smoke.
I think that ,in my haste to get it cooked before the Cobbstone burns though, I'm putting it on too soon.
Tonight I'd cooked veg and fish before I put the bread on.
Has anyone any experience to advise me?

Have a look at this video, he does various foods but bread is at about 7:30 it's a very short piece but if you look at how he's set the pans up he has lifted them off the griddle plate and he also say wait until it's stopped smoking before you put your dough in.

I have cooked no knead bread with great results. I put it on the rack above the griddle in a round tin and I think it worked great.

Sorry for the multiple pictures!
You're just teasing us by showing it again and again aren't you? :clap2: Now if you REALLY want to tease us cut a big slide and slap a load of butter on ... mmmmmmm.

Thank you, I'm inspired to have another go, I think that extra height is key.

Definitely, if you don’t lift it up it will burn on the bottom. I put it in as soon as the cob has stopped smoking, the hottest temperature makes it rise and cook before it gets burnt on the bottom.

I think you're right about the smoky taste through putting it on too early, I have done the same, although not with bread.

I might try it though, a stroll back to the van with the smell of baking bread sounds marvellous, and the Frankiej effort looks great.

Search no knead artisan bread as that is very easy to do when in the van.
