Hi I'm new to this forum and am looking for some help and advise please.

We purchased a 2018 Bailey Autograph 79-4 last year and have been very pleased with the MH generally however we have noticed we have very little ground clearance and have at times grounded the waste pipe and mud flaps just coming out of petrol stations.

We are hoping to go to Europe next year but are worried that we won't be able to get onto a ferry given the little ground clearance and long overhang on the rear and wondered if anyone has taken one of these vehicles abroad without any issues?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

our Adria Coral has similar ground clearance issues. you just need to watch some of the road cambers in tight spots in some villages. no major issue have crossed the water a dozen times in the past 7 1/2 years we have had it.

we always use the shuttle no ramp or clearance issues..

Hi Steve ,
I have AS assisted suspension fitted to my 794 and it makes a lot of difference including the ride. Some sites in Spain for example have massive kerbs and all I do is raise the suspension it prevents ripping the tap off also ! As for ferries yesterday had to raise in Norway on a local ferry as for the channel not sure as use the tunnel. I hope this helps.

Hi Jenka that really helps a lot thanks.

Can I ask you where you got the suspension fitted and how much it cost if you don't mind?

Also when did you get it fitted and what sort of extra lift do you get when fully raised?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Steve,
It was fitted at AS air suspension Warrington .i think it was about £1800 and they did a great job, not sure of the overall height but I have had no problems as I have a spare wheel carrier and it has never caught the ground since the AS fitted.
If you ring them I'm sure they can answer any questions.
Cheers.

Hi Steve,

As your van is on an Alko chassis fitting assisted Air suspension is not a DIY option.

I am investigating the same and the options I gave come up with are:

AS suspension in Warrington who are recommended by many on here.

Glide Rite do an Alko system fitted at the place in Hampshire.

LNB Towbars in Bristol offer 2 systems 1by Dunlop and one similar to AS.

They all cost £1700 to £1800

In one of the lunar I had you could raise the raise the tail by about 10cm. But it deoends on the length of overhang of the van as lifting is done at the axle.

Hope this helps.

They are the same company.

Other options are:-
VB Semi Air, approx £1900
VB Full Air on the rear only, approx 4,500
VB Full Air, approx £6,500

SAP near Doncaster fit the VB.

If you don't mind spending the money Full Air is the way to go.

We've just been Dover to Calais and return with no issues on and off the ferries.
Even the overly large speed humps at the exit from Calais weren't a problem.
The only concern I had was exiting a car park in Spain, the kerb edge was highly and the ramp was steep, 45 degree angle.
I just used all the space that was available and drove off one corner at a time.

Got my 794-T going in next week for a Semi-Rear suspension upgrade. Not before time either since I managed to rip out the grey waste plumbing last week. Again, £1800 seems to be the going rate. Chap at the 'shop' said once I'd had it done I could apply to have the MTPLM uprated by 200Kg - is this true?

We don’t have much clearance at the rear of our Swift, in fact the grey waste tap has come a cropper a couple of times. All I can suggest you go slowly as you can over bumps or, if you are rich, have fancy suspension fitted!

With higher rated rear tyres and air suspension you can go to 2240kg on the rear. A very useful increase.

I modified my waste outlet to a flexible one you can move outside of the van boundary so as to be able to place the outlet in a Wastemaster if on a sloping site. The tap is held under the side skirt with two household pipe brackets with the clip overs removed. I can reach under to remove or replace it. I think dealers may modify the waste bracket for you if you push the issue as it was deemed dangerous with the potential to fly off down the road into the path of an unsuspecting motorist ?.
