Hi I am a newby to the forum although I have owned a motor home since 2000. My current unit is a Bailey approach 745. I am concerned about the ground clearance and wondered if anyone had retro fitted a Dunlop air assist to the rear alco axle to raise it so that it clears ramps etc.

IT`s an Alko Rear Chassis unit?. If so the solution is VERY expensive. Alko have one which costs an arm and leg. There is a company (someone will tell me who) who do a conversion. The owner told me when I asked. "from 1500 to 2000+ pounds" depending on the extent of the control system.

Fitting "air bags" is not an option. (if I am wrong someone will tell me!)

Just put "air suspension" into the search box top right of page. There are at least 3 company's do it, price £1400 to £2000 ish for alko single axle.

I had my Bailey Approach done by AS Air Suspension in Warrington. They did a first class job too..
I agree it's a trifle expensive, mine came in around £1700 but the difference in handling is outstanding. I'd recommend it..

I always use www.as-airsuspension.co.uk/ which has an onboard compressor and can be adjusted on the move.

Thanks for the replies. Do the air units lift up the vehicle by much as I am concerned about damaging the waste tank and drain tap

You can set the amount of air you put in the system so can have it as high/low as you want but obviously this will affect how good the system works/ride is etc.

We had it on a couple of previous MHs and it really DOES make a heck of a difference but we didn't have an Alko chassis so it was a lot cheaper.

AS Air suspension gave me a four inch lift, i have a very long overhang, never had a problem since it was fitted, and the ride quality is amazing. cost £1700.

Also makes the back really solid and predictable if you ever tow - we tug our Fiat 500 on a trailer and with the AS you wouldn't know it's there.
Generally though the ride and handling is greatly improved and the sway we used to have when being overtaken has virtually disappeared.
