Bailey Adamo - What do you think of it so far? (2 Viewers)

Hi

We're considering a Bailey Adamo as replacement for our MH and keen to know if anyone can offer a review / comment on what their experience has been so far with the Adamo.
Our key criteria are 2 dogs need more space, garage, island bed and retirement allowing greater use!

Threads so far include the water pump challenge, one reader being told that you cannot fit a tow bar (we've been told you can so plan to look into that) but are there are serious down sides?

Well, you could fit a tow bar BUT you cannot tow anything
But the breaker for me was the ABYSMAL payload

Probably dearer to insure for most as it is a Ford

Agreed the payload as standard is abysmal. However if you have a C1 licence the max weight can be upgraded to 4100kg as a paper excercise. There is still now train weight so a towbar it seems is not possible.

On asking a salesman to check if it can be up plated to 3850kg the answer I got, after a phone call, as it is a Ford was no.

That was the answer I got when looking at an Autotrail f70 , payload was better than the bailey but still not a lot.

1 Driver and 93kg of personal allowance and empty water tanks.

So in my reading Bailey was better .......... ?

But the tow bar question has me puzzled. Thanks for the feedback so far.

Vehicle is not homologated for towing

Salesperson is “mistaken” , to be generous to them

Be very wary of a van with only 352kg of payload.

If you want to go off grid for a few days, or even for a picnic with water on board the figures make you wince.

A full tank of water, an extra battery and a 75KG passenger will leave you with 150KG. That means if you are lucky your bedding and cutlery, ramps, chairs and table might just about squeeze in. Forget an awning, or large dog, or other family members.

Oh and forget the food shop too, it will push you over the limit.

We have a Hymer Exsis and have 500KG, we really really struggle all the time to stay legal.

The salesman is wrong. On the Bailey owners group there are people who have used van weight engineering to upgrade. One Adamo 69-4 updated to 4100kg and an Adamo 75-4i updated to 4350kg admittedly not 3850 but updating is possible.

I am very pro British unfortunately 3 years of touring europe FT with a Bailey put paid to this and when i PX it recently it still had 12 out if 56 faults outstanding . Im sure someone will be along to correct me .

You're not reading it wrong, it's what is advertised in order to cover the manufacturers liability but real world is different.

We have the F70, twin singles, large garage (150kg max), 130ps - 6sp auto, drivers pack, lux pack, alloys.
Rear steadies and cassette blinds weren't an option in 2020 - the latter as at that time Remis hadn't mass produced their blinds to compensate for the shape of the auto wiper sensor, Auto Trails Trigano sister, Chausson, had first dibs.
We didn't want the cost option dinette or dropdown so ordered one in rather than take one from the forecourt as the dealers tend to configure them fully loaded.

Mass in Service is 2868kg, that's the weight it left the factory.



My concern with the Adamo?

1/The customer doesn't have a choice on configuring the habitation - you get the dropdown & heavy Aguti travel seats whether you want them or not meaning that in many instances you're wasting around 100kg of payload and paying for something you don't really want or need.

2/ The engines are an anomaly as Ford only use the 130ps or 170ps Ecoblue Panther. You can't buy a U.K. or EU Transit with a 160ps engine. For me these are pre 2017 base vehicles with the older Puma Duratec which again prior to 2017 were also fitted to Peugeot Boxers & Citroen Relays.

3/ 12v power is from the vehicle battery, topped up via an 80w solar panel. There's not even a cost option for a leisure battery.

4/ No spare wheel.

I'm a big & quite vocal supporter of British built motorhomes & camper vans, they're always first on our list when browsing but I was very disappointed with the Adamo especially as the Ford is a far superior product to the dated Fiat, Peugeot or Citroen.

That's right. Auto Trail offer a tow bar as a cost option on all of their Transit models.

I was told the Bailey Adamo 75 4t will tow 750 kilo I do have classic mini wait 640 kilo which I tow at the moment with my majesty a A frame wait is 28:kilo witch would leave round about 77 kilo to play with when I get my Adamo I hope this true

Yes, a tow bar is available but tow weight is 750kg so plenty for a motorbike.

I am getting mine uprated to 3850 or 4000kg so about 700 or 850Kg payload. That is with not upgrades to the tyres or suspension.

Biggest downside to the Adamo has been build quality. The dealer has had it twice and will have to have it again. Silly stuff like carpentry.

Overall I am getting to like it. The engine is powerful, it drives well and the auto gearbox is a bonus.

Remember, your gross train weight will always be 4250kg so any tow weight will come off your useable payload. The towbar could be 80kg.

We manage our payload like water and drinks/food when travelling.

SvTech tell me we can go to 4000 with no change to the vehicle and 4100 with air assist to the rear.
At 3850 that would allow 400 kg for a trailer and scooter. That is my plan.

Edit. SvTech say we can tow a heavier trailer so long as we sacrifice some weight in the van thus not exceeding the 4250kg train weight.

We liked this adamo van when we was looking a couple of year ago,
As we have a dog, and there was plenty of room at lounge area,
But then we decided on second hand burstner which also rear lounge and front dinette, I just prefer a straight viewing of a A class when you look in mirrors if you know what I mean,
But I thought Adamo was a nice van especially with dog .
Our current van 3850 weight which we do struggle with payload going to Eu for 6 weeks with dog food etc . And downside to our van is no large garage but dont I miss that as never had one before .I will up plate ours in near future .

Interesting reading the above comments re train weight and I have a couple of questions
1, where does the 4250kg train weight of vehicle and trailer come from as this is not stated on my v5c
2, towable trailer is stated as 750kg unbraked, 2100 kg braked which if I read this correctly says I can have a gross permissable mass of 5600 kg (prime mover & trailer) or am I way off the mark
