Hi top
Exp
Since2008
Hi I just thought I would let people know that I may be getting my Bailey motor home back on Wednesday. This is the Motorhomes that went on fire on November the 25th last year while on a rally at Southport. It seems such a long time to be with a motor home and cannot wait to get on the road again. The only problem now is getting suitable insurance. My company will not insure me again as a result of my 'poor claim history'. I did point out that I have not a motor claim of any sort for over 30 years. I was told the company had a policy that if anyone made a claim for over £8.000 then they would not be re insured. Anyone know of a reliable company. I was with a broker called Stavelyhead

Hi Don,
Glad to hear your long wait is coming to an end. (y)
Sad to hear of your experience with Staveley Head as I am with them too :Eeek:

Although some people knock them, I and several of my friends and family are with Scenic.
I have found them extremely helpful over a period of years

Glad you at least getting the road under your wheels again !! (y)

Glad to hear you're Motorhome's ready to use again. Good luck with insurance.

It was great to get away on a rally last weekend after all this time without our van. Going on a rally on Friday, then off to the Motor caravanners national rally in Anglesey on the Thursday foe bank holiday weekend, then off to Croatia for 7 weeks on June the 9th. It all looking good.

Good to hear your back into the travells again after your event. Good luck with no more mishaps.

Hi Don, sorry to hear about your fire ! can I ask what happened ? where did it start ? reason for asking was that last year we almost had a fire in our Bailey Approach 740 (2014)
I wakened up during the night a smelled smoke, looked about but could not find anything (it was 4,40 am) so went back to bed.
When I did get up I went to put the kettle on but had to electric ! thought the thing had tripped, checked both the van and the supply all was ok !!
So investigating further discovered that the 240v /battery charger unit was badly burnt where the wires to/from the control box RCD and the now external 12v charger mount on top.
Fortunately there was a fully qualified electrical engineer on site who inspected it on my behalf and he condemned as the worst case of bad wiring that he had ever seen, joints wre note soldered, bare end wire where it had been cut back to far and the top had melted wire and sever burning to the consumer R.C.D. housing.
I called Bailey in the UK who after some persuasion from myself and the guys at Cleveland motorhomes sent a replacement to me in Spain ( we were only 2 weeks into a 3 month stay)
The electrical engineer fitted and tested it for me, he also gave me a written report condemning the very poor quality of the RCD unit and the wiring.
Glad that you have it repaired and are now "back on the road"
