We are on a site and the soil /ground is very dry and sandy. Pegging down the awning etc a nightmare, any sensible solutions? Currently using cases of bottled water ..

Wind a bit gusty..

We used water to hold ours down once, & the sun went through & burnt the awning strap - it acted like a lens!

I think you can’t do more than your doing with the bottles of water to weigh it down. The only alternative is to wind it in and go down the pub. (y)

I fitted clips on the side of our van that the feet of the legs clip into for such occasions.

I had a similar conversation with a novice camper recently. They had bought just the one set of rock pegs, oblivious to the fact that different types of peg for different ground conditions. Then they were banging the pegs in straight down, rather than a 45 degree angle to resist them pulling straight out when the wind picked up

Get yourself a handful of long plastic soft ground pegs and use them correctly

Put some duct tape on the bottles if you are worried about the sun. At motor racing most use 25 litre plastic Jerry cans white in colour. Fill them with water they make a good anchor. 👍🏼👍🏼
Then use the warm water to wash the van 😂😂

Or buy the corkscrew type of peg. Then use it to open the wine 😂😂😂😂

I recommend a box of Delta Ground Anchors pegs.
They’re brilliant for soft ground and sandy ground.
Someone suggested them to me years ago when the wind kept pulling our drive away awning pegs up when we had a VW Baywindow, so I bought some and they’re good.

If you put a few used tea bags in the water bottles the discoloured water helps stop the sun burning awnings etc

This is the solution we use. In fact, I've never used any other solution, even in perfect ground in perfect weather. It just works. Half the time we're on tarmac anyway!

I might mention that the plastic clips that came with the awning didn't last long. Googling for replacements, Fiamma (manufacturers of awning) offered proper metal upgrades. They've lasted the course.

I went for the aluminium version plus I mounted ours on a 4" square stainless steel plate to spread the load as I was concerned that the "C" class outer wall on ours is only a thin aluminium skin.

Quite a few differing suggestions ShiftZZ so can you clarify whether you mean legging down your roll out cassette awning and legging down the legs or do you mean pegging down your awning as it a drive away type or sides to your cassette awning?

The delta ground anchors that I suggested are for the latter and I use a u shape plate that sits around the base of the cassette awning leg which is then pegged then to stop the two legs lifting.
I’ve also got the plastic shoe brackets like in the above photo whereby the leg feet slot into which are good for tarmac but you can’t wind out the awning fully when in use.

I have the legs down I have a plate that sits on the base of the legs, I have straps to the awning. The issue is the ground is very dry and sandy. Nothing holds. I've tried spikrs at different angles, nothing holds. I've now stopped trying. 6 x 2lire of bottled water is the best I've come up with..

Change the awning for a Dometic self supporting awning. Remote control operation, automatic wind sensor easy peasy

I love ours, and you can extend it all the way out, or, just a bit what ever suits

I've got something similar to this.

Doesn't hold it..
Trouble with those plates is that they don't allow you to put angles on the pegs so I'd never use them. If you don't have the awning too far out you could try what we used to do with the awning on our camper when on tarmac etc, basically the legs (blue) are extended and then angled so they go under the side of the van with a protective cover (orange) so they don't mark it, straps are then attached to the rolled out awning front and secured to the van (yellow) either bodywork/sill or wheels.

No leg supports needed at all? Is that a slide out photo copier?
Nope 100% self supporting

Nope its a slide out beer fridge it holds 2 x 18 slabs of Stella Atrois if Lyn doesn't get there first and fill it full of wine lol
