We put up an awning if we are away for more than 2 nights and have always used big pegs to tie down storm strap etc.

It's easy hitting them in with a lump hammer but not always that easy to get the sods back out again, especially if it's been very dry.

My wife bought some drill in pegs and they are brilliant. We use them for the storm straps and for the awning tie downs. You need a rechargeable drill but it is so easy and they do not move a centimetre once you have drilled them in and easy to get out.

I can't speak too highly of them

good idea in principle, but only if you can still thump them in with a hammer, when you forget to charge or even forget to pack the cordless drill :)(y)

That's true.

It's why I bring a wife:D2

Peggy Pegs? Were they named by the same person who came up with Boaty McBoatface?

That doesn't always work with the big storm strap pegs.

I got one stuck in the ground in Carcassone a few years back. I sweated and cursed until eventually a young Spanish bloke gave me a hand to get it out.

I think I would still be there now if he hadn't :)

If it doesn't rain soon here we will need a Hilti gun to put nails in. I always pull the awning in at night just in case the winds really gets up.

Never had a problem, just hit them sideways a few times and then pull them out.

I tried all that.

The ground was really dry. By the time we had got the damn thing out it was bent beyond use anyway by all the sideways hitting

Okay then, mitigating circumstances, HOWEVER, are you qualified in the use of a claw hammer as some of us who were in the building trade for many years received training and obtained certificates in how to use a claw hammer.:D

Definitely not qualified. Absolutely hopeless at all things practical.

More a thinker than a doer:)

To be absolutely truthful I did bend a couple of the big storm strap ones after our winter in Spain as they had been in the ground over 5 months and it was only yesterday that I straightened them out ready for going back in October so you are not alone.

Peggy pegs keep getting mentioned and I've seen them at shows and been impressed, has anyone ordered from this site The reason for asking is that they dont have an online payment option which is rather surprising in this day and age?

I don't want to hear that having toiled for ages getting them out and enlisting the help of a young French chap once in Carcosonne.

Screw in ones are best though, trust me.
