I'm a newbie to MoHo but caravanning for 30 years
We are thinking of getting an awning for our Swift Escape 664....which is better drive away or fixed? We have 2 grandchildren that love to come with us and therefore we need a bit more room! We'd only use it when we are staying in one place for more than a couple of days. Kampa or Outwell or any other brand recommended? Thanks

Good question, also waiting for a reply. Come on you lot, pull your finger out. We want answers.

If you’re tending to travel close to your weight limit, an awning you only take when needed (drive away) could help.
Esp. As you plan to only have occasional use.

I’m an owner of a built on wind out canopy but remember drive away awnings from trips with my parents.

On my home converted PCV I had a driveway Kampa Air.

I found the air ridiculously easy to pitch compared to the previous Kampa I had with carbon rod poles. Whatever you choose, try to see the size in It’s bag and it’s weight.

Also a demo of one being inflated might help you decide too.

Been there made the choices,

Bev loves her safari room , we have it down to 20 minutes to put up now 👍

had blow ups as well, never mastered the drive away bit, seems more suited to V Dubs, ours is too high

On site now best of all options, sone shade, sone wind protection social distancing all sorted 👍

Lucky enough to have both, wind out we use for shade and light showers but like the inflatable for the wetter cooler months for a bit more space and for a wet mutt :giggle:(y)

This one is in classifieds:

Another vote for Vango and we use the drive away inflatable version (Galli Compact)
Very easy to use - just stick a couple of markers in the ground to line up your wheels, and slide it off the van.

We have an Outdoor Revoution Movelite 2 inflatable drive away - we used it attached last week end , but on the next site we will use it unattached so as to enjoy the view (y)

We have both - drive away and fixed and both are SunnCamp.

Ours are the type with the rods and are quick and easy to put up and take down. The drive away one is the larger and we use it when we are staying on the same site for a few days - when not in use for sitting I use it to dry laundry :) The fixed awning is more like a porch but big enough for a couple of chairs.

We have a BBQ point and a gas stove that can be used out in the awnings which is great when we are cooking fish :)

The drive away has also been used at rallies to create additional undercover space.

If you have a couple of poles you can probably rig the 'tunnel' bit up as an awning/seating area.

We bought a kampa driveaway as we don't have a tow car so are more likely to use the MH to go anywhere. Being able to leave it up like a base camp and not pack everything away each time was our deciding factor. Some never move once pitched so just depends what sort of camper you are. As other say we would only take it for certain trips, too big to lug around full time.

We do the same. We left our Vango on a camp site in Mull, when we went to Iona and it was still standing after a gale when we got back. We have the Vango Attar tall.

Awnings ! Good when you stay put for a while. Not good for touring, too much hassle. We bought a 6 man quest pop up on the Funsters charity auction, works well but same rules apply. Personally I wouldn’t use one for less than 3 night stay.
