Think awning has had its day . Cant find anybody to even look at a repair.
They are nearly £1000 fitted. My supplier said claim on your insurance . The question is how much will this affect my premium?
How easy to fit myself is it just held in by the self tapping screws under the brackets?
(Fiamma)

Do you use it a lot?

It's easy to fit. Remove all self-tappers - it will stay in place - then lift the lower edge over the lip on the brackets. Two people minimum - they're heavy.

Has a specific part broken because Fiamma have a very extensive parts list.
What is wrong with the awning?

My attitude to this type of dilemma is ..

Does it work? - No, then you can’t do too much harm trying to repair it yourself.

If it then doesn’t repair- replace. Not forgetting that your insurance company isn’t a charity, they’ll claw their money back through their algorithms..

Firstly it stopped winding in on the left by approx 20mm. Saw the video how to re tension by pushing the cog with a screwdriver. Didnt have chance before we left for france. Had to wind it in quickly due to wind and now it wont go in on the right by about 50mm. The frustrating thing is i think it’s repairable but nobody seems interested. And then the dilemma you spend money on repairs that aren’t successful.

Hi havent got a clue where to start. Think its out of square. I am going to lube all moving parts before we put away on Thursday and see what happens. Got zip ties to secure if it still wont retract

Certainly sound like adjustment and not worth getting a new one.

If its out of square it's usually one of the bendy arms has moved.
You need to wind it out fully and measure the distance from the ends to the arm screws top and bottom.
Then wind in half way and check that the elbow point of the arms are exactly opposite each other.
That is where I would start.

Any ideas for a repair place cant see me being able to sort. I could fit a new one no problem. I contacted rose awnings twice no reply. Rhino installs not interested in repairing.

You only need the correct size spanner and a tape measure to check the arm adjustments.
Take you no more than 30 minutes.

My experience of claiming off my insurance company for a damaged awning, was that next years premium doubled and was on my record of claim for five years. From that point on, my insurance never dropped, although changing to other companies. Once you claim, you are a risk to them.

I paid more for that awning, by making a claim.

Mine was 2mm out on the side that was catching. Adjusted to the same as the other side.
Sorted.
Give it a go

I had a claim for awning damage and picked up a 15% loading on top of £200 excess.

Wont bother with insurance then.
Where are you measuring from for the arms to be central. I have just tightened up the top nut on the top right fixing as this was loose.

You don’t want to do the nuts on the shock absorbers (2 nuts in a block) to tight as that can effect how it goes back.

Just tightened with a socket as was loose nearly out . Turning into a nitemare now . How tight is not too tight?

Trial and error really, the arm needs to be able to move, mine was tight and I slackened it oh a little.

I agree. Don’t claim insurance.
I made a claim but what I didn’t know that it’s logged as a ‘fault claim’. This stays on your record for 5 years. Not only my motorhome premium increased but also affected my car insurance , wife and daughters insurance as I’m a named driver on their policies.

There are a number of youtube videos on how to adjust it, some are made by fiamma. May be useful to you

Left hand side of last page of attachment has a suggestion for small gap adjustment (usually due to fabric stretch) It may help you. I used heavy duty Gorilla duct tape and it closed a 1.5 cm gap

I would be cautious if tightening the bolt that adjusts arm tension. If you overdo it it may damage the arm.

Simon, have you priced the cost of parts to do your own repair. There might be a lot of info out there that may help, try youtube for example if there is anything showing repairs procedure.

i had problems last year, the cogs/gears stripped couldnt wind it in tried and tried in shell island so i gave up and binned it,luckily i found one on ebay 4m £500 easy to fit lifts in then self tappers to keep it in.
