Avtex Aerial. Which way up?

In our new to us van we have an inbuilt Avtex TV.

The van doesn't come with an inbuilt aerial so we bought an aerial.
This is what we have.

Thing is, how does one align the aerial to the transmitter. Should it be left as shown in the above image
or, through the 'bendy' fitment (also shown), should it be pointed in a horizonal plane either flat or tilted into a vertical point.
 
Where I live, the Avtex Aerial (just bought to replace the failed one) seems to get best digital reception when it is horizontal.

Polarity might depend on your local transmitter.

That bendy sucker mount does fall off now and then, which is irritating.
 
It varies from location to location. If you use an app such as Antenna Aligner it will tell you which of the local transmitters are horizontally aligned and which ones are vertically aligned. The app will also tell you which way to point it.
