After having prised off the white clamshell cover (not easy) it looked as though there was nothing obviously wrong with my old Avtex STH 3000. I had no idea that it contained any circuitry. Why was it not getting any signal? Then I unscrewed the PCB and looked underneath:
You can just about see that 2 tiny components have overheated / fried themselves and gone INOP.
No DIY mending possible. Pity, it was only about 9 years old. I had to buy a new one.
