Just ordered Avon insect repellent and received this. No mention of insect repellent. Has anyone used this? Did Amazon screw up?

No that's the stuff. It does help greatly in fighting the midgies.

There has been mention of the new bottles not containing the ingredient that deters midgies but haven't really heard many saying it doesn't work.

Fingers crossed for you.

Another tip is to burn citronella sticks. You can get nice long ones to stick in the grass :)

I think even the SAS use it so it must work! I've been using it for several years but always seem to get bitten on the 'unexposed' parts :)

this is our favourite, not necessarily from superdrug, but price is pretty good (y)

nice easy application, roll on like a deodorant, no mess, we do a ring round face, back of neck, ankles and wrists, works pretty well, but midges are a sod, for me it is the annoyance more than the bites, feels like they are crawling all over you and you are breathing them in when they are at their worst :(

I am considering taking this plus skin so soft this year :)(y)

just looking further into the superdrug options, also found this one, with 50% DEET which is about as high a concentration I have seen, might just buy this as well for our August travels (y)(y)

We used this product in Thailand after putting on our legs and walking along with a plastic carrier bag the bag disintegrated after brushing against our legs . No way we were using again we now swear by Skin So Soft although it can seem a bit oily

5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
I'm not comfortable using products with DEET in them.
Eating food from street vendors in Egypt is not the same without the DEET flavouring ;)

DEET melts plastic. I also I had to buy new glasses after six months in Belize, the bit of the lens nearest my nose was frosted by the stuff etching it away.
It does work but I use Smidge these days plus burning the mozzie coils near my feet when sitting outside. :)

It's been linked to causing neurological disorders. I'd rather go with a more natural product.
If you are looking for a natural one try Bug Buster from Napiers in Edinburgh. They say that it is tested on Scottish midges.

Yep, it discoloured my wifes white frames, disolved the anti slip coating on our camera, stained cloths, real nasty stuff best avoided.

When considering the harmful diseases that can result from insect bites when visiting exotic places DEET's disadvantages are outweighed by the advantages.

But for midges in Scotland Skin so Soft and Smidge has worked for us and both much more pleasant to use.

We arrived at a Glencoe campsite site a few years ago and he midges were a probelm. We went to the office to buy some repellant and the warden sold us the Avon product over the proprietary brand products saying "it's what the locals use". I worked. (y)

I must be lucky Jim. Never really been bothered too much by midges. Used to work in Hong Kong; near the fish farms and you couldn't see for midges, so thick in the night you'd be breathing them in. My mates would suffer with bites everywhere but I'd just get one or two. Maybe I just don't taste very nice

I spent a lot of time in the Braemar, Ballater area at the height of summer for many years.
We always used 'Skin so Soft' in preference to other specific insect repellants. It worked, you still got the occasional bite but on the whole was good

I watched a program recently where a researcher tested all forms of repellent on himself. The only thing that worked was 50 % deet based product. All else failed miserably. So its deet for me,and it tastes awful if you get it near your mouth.
