Have a 2018 Autotrail Imala 625 and I’m not convinced the current leisure battery wiring is optimal to get the most out of the batteries, the diagrams below show the existing set up and then a proposed layout to bring the 2 x 100 Amp lead acid batteries into a parallel configuration (the wires into the Sargent EC155 share common links) any feedback or issues gratefully received.

I don't really think there is anything wrong with the setup as is, if you link the two batteries as the second drawing shows you would need to remove all the C1 associated wiring and then the feed from batteries to sergeant unit would be only half the original cross sectional area so double the voltage drop.

I believe you are right in thinking that the second drawing is theoretically better but I would think only marginal with just two batteries and the other issues would negate any advantage.

Are the actual cable runs as shown in the existing setup diag - ie different lengths?, If they are the same length, there isn't much to be gained from changing it.

In the proposed setup the return current will end up going through a single cable - if two were required to get the correct safe mm² of copper, this will limit performance.

I would go with the second option but upgrade the wiring to the Sargent unit. Brit vans are notorious for undersize wiring.

The imala (i had one) was woeful wiring as lenny says.
There's little benefit in what is drawn.

I ran seperate wiring added a new victron charger and solar with b2b and bypassed the child's power side all together and dropped in a load of lithium

Left it all in situ though and removed the charger power, was easy enough.

Thanks for the responses, I’ve gone with proposed setup but agree with the comments on the poor wiring and have installed a DC DC unit and bypassed the Sargent wiring along with an isolation relay in the existing split charge system, next step is to replace the solar control unit with an MPPT.
