Yes, I know it is an old program but have not found a suitable free replacement for using offline on Windows 7 and I have not been able to get to grips with Garmin BaseCamp. I am wondering if other Funsters still use Autoroute and whether they have found a way of updating the base map.

No recommendations about updating to Windows 10 please. I set up a pc for someone recently on Windows 10 and I will definitely not touch it with a proverbial barge pole. I will probably have to upgrade to Linux at some stage but postponing that move.

I use BaseCamp as Autoroute is so out of date and haven't had any major problems with it. I have it installed on a USB stick so can move around between desktops and laptops. Having said that I know others can't come to grips with it.
FYI, be aware neither BaseCamp nor Autoroute have Linux versions and I believe the latter doesn't work under Wine on a Linux machine but somebody else may be able to confirm or deny.

I have to say that I occasionally use my (very old) version of Autoroute. I am on Windows 10 and will be interested in any responses to this.

I've given up trying to find any map updates for Autoroute. We use it all the time using the trail facility to log our trips.
Not even been able to get it to install in Linux also can't get my Bluetooth GPS receiver to work in Linux so it wouldn't be any good if I could get it to run.

There are no longer any updates but I still use Autoroute 2013 to generally plan our routes on my W10 desktop, then transfer the file to a netbook the navigator likes to keep open in front of her as we travel, with the trace facility activated - I connect a standalone GPS receiver and it works fine. Yes some of the roads have changed, although they rarely cause us any grief; when I want accurate directions I use a TomTom which otherwise just sits providing me with road info and as a kph speedo. The netbook also has all my POI's installed so if we're, say, looking for a place to stop for the night the navigator can cast around to quickly see what's near. That's the nearest to planning we ever do!

At the end of the day I convert the traced route to a picture file I can import into our blog (see latest in signature below). It's a bit of a faff but it only takes me a minute and is easier than trying to learn Google Maps, even though I acknowledge that's probably a better programme. I'm just an old fuddy duddy who doesn't like too much change!

You'll may have done \ tried these but .......
Have you got blueman installed (assuming Ubuntu based distro)?
Is it running?
Have you checked if the device being hard or soft blocked by the system?

I've only just got back to having another play with Linux I'm using Mint 19, Cinamon.

I don't think I'm going to have much luck as the other day my wife asked if she could have Autoroute on her PC. The version I bought was an Amazon download remember when I first got it I downloaded it and spent 2 weeks trying to get it to install then found out you can only install directly from the download.
Anyway, when I tried a couple of days ago the install file would download but nothing else, FGS I only bought it in 2014.

Might pick up a CD on eBay and have a play.

Mint is a Ubuntu derivative so maybe have a look at here if you're looking to get Bluetooth working.
A couple of years ago now but managed to get it to work on an older Mint machine.

Just installed Blueman & got my GPS unit working, thanks.

Used to love Autoroute for the big picture it gave opposed to the road wide view of a regular sat-nav.

But I found a better replacement on my ipad. sadly only good for the UK though.

You get the big red dot showing where you are in the middle of a very familiar-looking OS map at any scale you like.

Try using Garmin's, Mapsource, it's a much older program (though it uses the latest mapping), and is a bit easier once you get to grips with it.

Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Basecamp, just a very good routing program.

Mine is 2010 .. Still use it almost daily for one thing or another
Never found anything to better it really

Don't think you can use either of those with a GPS receiver.

Yes you're right Lenny, but they are excellent for plotting routes and loading into Garmin units.

Although I have a Garmin I don't use it in the van, I have IGO on my Clarion but we use Autoroute with GPS to oversee the route and plot a trail.

After saying I still use Autoroute ten the other day, this morning had a major oops and it got somewhat ruined !!
I have had the place apart looking for the disk but cannot find it :-(

Android app Maps.me on a large tablet is ok and once downloaded it can work offline. Not sure if it stores routes though.
