The switch which the step connects with when it closes has broken. I've been using a caravan step since. Is such a switch replaceable or do I need to replace the whole step. I'm quite happy with the current arrangement at the moment.

You could try "courtesy door switch" on ebay and see if any of the pictures look similar.

Not sure if you need a switch that makes when not pushed in though.
Hope that makes sense!
I was able to use one on my step which was a "project 2000" step.

There are plenty on eBay as SandraL suggests. Search also for 'door alarm push switch' or 'limit switch'. Your switch is a very simple "make on release" device. In other words pushing the switch breaks the connection. Almost certainly available from the step manufacturer too.
