tell that to the arrogant farmer who organises shoots in the field at the back of us.......depending on the direction of the beaters they stand within feet of our rear fence, which runs next to a public bridleway, shooting over the field.

Police have spoken to him and given him verbal warnings.......but thats where 'arrogant' comes in.

He thinks he's above the law.....and the police never turn up in time after ringing them when he is shooting.

From memory, its 25ft.....not very far when using a shotgun

25 YARDS is the kill range of the average shotgun - the load will carry on for a further 100 yards and cause serious injury. Contact the local firearms licencing authority and ask for his shotgun licence to be reviewed

One interesting anecdote to this is that seagulls are also a protected species and despite their annoying habits councils cannot shoot them unless they are a specific hazard to humans - ie attacking passers by etc

scarborough borough council used to have an annual cull........at first by shooting, then later by egg collection on the cliffs below the castle.

Then it all stopped......

Now, in summer, you cant walk through the town without getting covered in gull shit

Of course, a major contributing factor, other than not culling, to there abundance in town is visitors feeding the flying shit factories

All they can do around this way is to oil the eggs so they don't hatch out but its a bit like swatting a fly - 1 down 10 billion to go :Eeek:

I'm sorry, some people won't like this ... but in Almeria they used to have an annual round up of all the pigeons that had been depositing guano on the buildings in town since last August.

During Feria week in August they transported them to a big open space somewhere in the back of beyond. People turned up with their escopetas and paid an entry fee. When it was your turn, a chap pulled out a live pigeon, pulled a tail feather or two out and lobbed it over the crossbar of a sort of Rugby post affair. There was another set of posts some distance away. You had to try and shoot it before it crossed the other post, but it flew erratically of course. If you missed with both barrels, all the people who hadn't paid an entry fee were waiting on the other side of the second set of posts, and apparently it was a bit like the Alamo !

No doubt they've banned it now.
