We have been on this campsite in venimiglia for three days now but been out in the day until today as Julie wanted to go in the sea, so we have been down this morning but had a lazy afternoon ready to get up early for the market tomorrow.
We just don't use campsites as a rule and it's been brought back to me why.
All on top of one another, and the folks in caravans and small vws and the like wandering up and down with towels to the showers or pots to the washing up place, in-between they just sit about.
People knock Aires but you don't get any of that as they are all self contained and go out in the day.
I have knocked CCP, but they are a third the cost of this place and ten times better never mind free Aires.

Must say Casher we haven’t had the van across the water yet but even in this country we are more and more using pub stops or the forestry Scotland type stops after a day out somewhere.
only really use sites for a shower and top up the batteries if needed.

Those that do use them probably rave over them but each to their own eh.

Whilst we are wandering France in what you describe as a 'little VW' I can only agree with you.
We're currently at the end of week three of five and parked on our first campsite due to our first wet day and some washing needing doing.
Once clear of here tomorrow I don't anticipate using anything other than Aires during the rest of our trip.
I can't describe what the difference is between campsites and Aires other than the latter are many times nicer and more interesting (usually). The price has some influence but is not the deciding factor!

The horror !,, people going to the shower. People sitting down. They have small VWs. Hard to Imagine anything worse.
Small vws are fine if they have their own toilet and shower, one across from us whoosh banged twice in the night to walk to the toilet.

I was not knocking vws ,we only have a whoosh bang ourselves but we don't have to wander about in dressing gowns with towels under our arms.
A bloke just this second walked past with three towels.

chaser I was brought up in the country in the 1950s with no running hot water, no mains electricity etc. Showers were an un known luxury then and can be managed without when needs be in the 2022s.

PS How was he wearing the three towels?

One round his head and one under each arm.

Which site are staying on Chaser? Would it be Camping Vallecrosia? Looks nice but expensive, but limited choice in the city I guess.
Enjoy the market, take lots of pictures, we love seeing them, especially the price tags on the fresh fish/meat/veg as it can make what we pay back home seem cheap on many occasions.

Never seen such a performance, draw in, shuffle about a bit, get levelers out start up again backwards and forwards a time or two, then hookup to electric, get the sky dish up, twirl it round a time or two, get the awning out, tables and chairs all got to be leveled up, fill water, get a waste hog lined up, time to go in then.

One of the major attractions of continental touring for me is atmosphere. I like to get as far away as possible from the clinical approach of UK club sites as possible. Just out of idle interest, what would you expect people to wear when relaxing on holiday? I know choice of pitches is usually limited, but an awful lot of slididing door haters seem to make habit of parking close to PVCs.

Used hundreds of Aires and hundreds of campsites, all part of the same lifestyle. Couldn't care less about people in towels, budgie smugglers or nothing at all. Couldn't care less about what they do with their pets or kids either or whether they want to hike, bike, drive or sit all day long.

Wonder what tomorrows Motorhome Moan will be about?

No we are at pol e mar at latte just between ventimiglia and menton, I'm not knocking the site either for what we want, we wanted to visit menton, which we did yesterday and the market in ventimiglia on Friday and they will shuttle you there saved finding parks and things,no for how sites go it is ok and there really isn't anywhere else to park down here as handy.

And?

Hi Chaser
Clarky is the expert tour guide on Gruisson Plage, he used to go quite often, he and his wife liked it very much.
It can be very windy at times, and now they charge a fee of 8/10EU in season, but you may be lucky back end of Sept.
Haven't heard much from Richard Clarky in recent times due to illness, nearly met him at RIAT Fairford Airshow, but we had to pull out, he seems like a lovely guy we wish him well, and hope he gets back on the road soon. (y)
Check out his vlogs on the many aires he visits, including Gruisson Plage they are really helpful.

And they could be free out in the country instead of being on top of one another, the motorhome or cara an is the total holiday, not being somewhere different just all crowded together where they came from.

Well we use both aires and camp sites abroad. Aires when travelling every day but campsites when staying in one place for a while. Just paid €114 for 6 nights on camp site next to Lake Annecy at St Jorioz. Free water, electric waste and toilet included plus bread and croissants in the mornings, snack bar, ice creams on site etc. we can get and leave the bikes out every day and also the awning, table and chairs.

DBK just paid €15 euros for a very poor aire in Aux-Les-bains so worth the extra to me for the way I want to holiday

Don't think I have said a word about what people wear , I think that was you.
