Are you sure you still want to spend the winter in Morocco

probably safer than the streets of London .. and a damn sight warmer ;)

Figures from London's Metropolitan police showed that knife crime has surged by 16 per cent in the capital — as Britain's crime epidemic continues.

Excluding those killed in terror attacks like London Bridge, Westminster and Manchester, there was still a 12 per cent rise in murders — the highest numbers in a decade.

The total number of offences involving a knife or bladed instrument that have been recorded by cops in the year to March 2018 rose to 40,147, a seven-year-high.

There were 1,299 stabbings in London up to the end of April, according to official statistics from the Met Police.

Yeah but it is restricted to Somalians in London whereas it can effect anyone in Morocco..

Two young girls having their heads hacked off seems pretty violent to me busby....
I reckon you're a secret redtop newspaper journalist Buttons.
Don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

The pair were found dead from knife wounds near a popular tourist spot on Monday.

One person had already been arrested on Monday, hours after the bodies of the two women were discovered with injuries to their necks.

We hope this is an isolated terror attack by jihadis affiliated to IS. It was probably inevitable that this would spread to Morocco given the number of tourists from Europe. They may have been driven out of Tunisia and hoped to find easy targets in Morocco. 4 now in custody.

Although I have no plans to go to Morocco the lesson for Funsters is as always:

Be. A. Lert. :xshout:

According to the Mail there is a beheading video of this crime. One of those poor young women was decapitated for terrror propaganda purposes. IS claimed responsibility.

Keep an eye on the FCOs Travel Advice over the coming months as that's one of the main driving forces for the insurance companies' risk assessments (including Lloyds of London).

Sorry, I would have to confirm the date on the front page of the mail before believing the date they printed.
The BBC have too much to lose by sensational journalism.
The report would have said decapitated rather than knife wounds to the neck.
Anyway, it's all speculation as to why and how.

Firstly ISIS claim responsibility for anything anywhere now in a desperate attempt to "prove" that they still exist and have influence. I'm somewhat surprised that they havent laid claim to the havoc presently ongoing at Gatwick airport or to the fact that my neighbour lost her cat three weeks ago !
Secondly , my understanding is that the Morocan Goverment and native people are very aware of the spending power of the tourist so draconian measures have been established for some time now to curb the radicals in that country. Statistically it is probably far more dangerous in Europe in terms of the risk of knife attacks, vehicle attacks etc

As I've posted in the Morocco 2019 thread - Dog bites man = no news, man bites dog = news. It's such a rare occurrence in Morocco that it makes the news; unhappily not so in the UK.

Next you will be saying that ISIS in Morocco is non violent.

Dont recall mentioning ISIS..Bet you UK has more violent crimes than Morocco,,,If your are put off travelling by a bit of news i would sell your van.BUSBY:xgrin::xgrin:

The European continent is big enough for me busby, for the life of me I cant imagine why anyone would want to take a motorhome to any part of north Africa. What attraction could it possibly have that Europe doesn't offer.:)

We are all different and like different things,,I would never want to climb a mountain but happy to parachute or sky dive. Many have E Bikes, i would not thank you for one..It would be a boring life if we were all the same,,Happy Xmas to you Buttons,,BUSBY:xgrin::xgrin:

Moroccans are generally non violent.
They will be horrified and appalled at this.
The government will no doubt take a very hard line against the perpetrators.
It wouldn't stop me going (again).

Now London, that's a different matter.
Much too dangerous!!!

London is a bit like any other big city sue, it has it's good areas and its not so good areas. They don't even let rough sleepers stay in the borough of Westminster now case it upsets the residents.:xwink: have never felt in any way unsafe in London it is a wonderful city to visit. .

I have walked around Marskesh Herraklion, Athens Barcelona late at night,,would not do it in Nottm ,,full of piss heads and druggies at weekends..BUSBY:xangry:

@buttons
I lived in the east end and worked in London for nearly 20 years.
Even then you needed to be careful where you went, especially at night.
Wouldn't live there now.

Because you have never been, you have no idea what it is like, people are more freindly in Morocco then the EU.
It has stuff you can not find in Europe, and I am not going to tell you, how can you say it is worse, when you have not been.

I've spent some time in New York and Chicago even Cairo and Paris. They have good areas and not so good ones. If you get yourself in the wrong area of Chicago it can get the adrenalin flowing but never really scary.

So we are planning our first trip to Morocco in the New Year.................................cannot really understand the point of @buttons starting the thread with that particular title.

Not about urging fellow members to be careful just stirring it
You've never been....................you don't want to go..............so the point is ??????

I wouldn't want to go to Morocco in our van but we did go on a trek in the Anti Atlas a few years ago and our guide is still a good friend who we would invite to stay with us in a heartbeat.

Mohammed, a lovely man.

He introduced us to his friends who invited us into their homes and who gave us mint tea and cakes, even though they probably had less money in a year than we had for a month :xsad:.

We camped in remote areas and felt very safe.

Just because of a few extremists you can't tar a whole nation with the same brush. Good thing really, cos the Brits would be very high on some countries' blacklist.
