Are you one of those weird campers who hates grass?

I like walking bare for in fresh dew grass. Gets the dirt out between your toes 😂😂

Love grass- but it depends on how it is cut. if the camp owner mows the lawn and does not collect the grass. yes we use a Moroccan mat as we don't want to tread that load of crap into the van.

We use a breathable groundsheet under the awning because, like others have said it keeps the van clean. With lightweight tents they also protect the sown-in ground sheet from stones. I always used one when cycle-camping.

Vango Kela Awnings have built in groundsheets so not much choice really. No groundsheet is fine until it tips it down!

I do like grass between my toes, but not when damp first thing

is your grievance Jim damage to grass? That is overcome by using breathable groundsheets 👍

we have just had three days / nights no sign that we had even been other than a little flattened 🙂👍

Dog pooh. No thanks. Happy to walk on grass (shoes on), less happy to drive on it. No groundsheets in our van.

Sites used to ask people to move every couple of days but I suppose with the amount of stuff people bring, that’s no longer practical.

Never even considered a groundsheet, by the time some have erected their awning, windbreaker, groundsheet etc, they may as well build a log cabin and have done with it..

And rather than the most natural thing in the world, the feel of a bit of grass between your toes you prefer to walk on a piece of petroleum industry by-product that kills the grass and the planet?

What is it with people and groundsheets.
Not allowed to walk barefoot because I am Diabetic

we just rock up and put the kettle on. Some people spend ages faffing about. The most amusing was a couple trying to install grey water drainage pipes to a grate. They tried for over an hour and eventually gave up. It was absolutely hilarious!

Breathable still kills the grass, especially when in an awning. I think I will just ban caravans altogether.
just put a ban on groundsheets in Jasmin's rules, the same as no blue elsan down the CDP. Keep it simple and leaves the pitch to breathe as it should

By the way, I dislike groundsheets and will only use one under the steps to wipe feet before entering

You can't do that I am a tugger! Please please please, but I do use a breathable ground sheet :crying1: :crying1: :crying1:

It’s great to walk barefoot on grass until you find that sliver of glass someone has dropped or the peg they haven’t pulled up. I especially like walking on grass just after it rains. I do have a breathable groundsheet though to keep the MH clean.

Friends of ours used to take there caravan to scout and cub camps. Before the awning went up there was a carpet rolled out . She had wellies for grass slippers for in the caravan. The rest of us were in smelly old ex army tents that leaked like a colander.
She had re chargeable hoover that came out every day. The kids called her Mrs Buquet.

I much prefer grass; a couple of rows of paving slabs for the wheels are fine but I thoroughly dislike hard-stand pitches. I don't stay more than a night or two at one place. Grass inside the m/h doesn't concern me at all. It's only grass and I have a 12v vacuum for use in extremis once a week or so.

Nobody stops me walking barefoot - the NHS only ever advise anyone with diabetes not to walk barefoot, nobody has ever physically stopped us. The reason is if we get neuropathy in out tootsies, that prevents us feeling it if we do step on eg a broken bottle. And precisely why we get the feeling all over our feet checked as part of the 15 essential checks during our annual medical MOT which we are all obliged to have.

Ruddy Crocs, wellies, Sidi boots, anything with a 'sculpted' sole, walk far more grass and other crap inside vans than bare feet do.

I happened to be looking at UK campsite websites the other night and some of them already ban groundsheets including breathable ones - and say so in capital letters on their 'Home' page and repeat it elsewhere. below our internal hab door steps, we have an additional moulded plastic step cos I have little legs, in front of that is one of them black plastic doormats with holes in - and that's ruddy uncomfy to put your weight on barefoot I can tell you - BUT!! it doesn't kill the grass. Anyway my reaction to the ban was only, 'Don't blame them - and it's their ruddy grass after all!' and smiled.

You pays yer money and takes yer choice.
