Ah thought that would drag you in and get your attention:D
Now as you know I dont live in Italy where its second nature to be on the horn all day every day when driving:rolleyes:
I have only used my Fiat horn twice in the last 16 months of van ownership, when being carved up and such like, but now I have felt the need to vent my anger and heard its horrible little emasculated peep, I am now too embarrassed to even think about using it.
I would like to fit a dual horn arrangement that sounds as any self respecting van horn should sound like, especially on a German van:)
I did think that being a premium MH brand that would politely ask Fiat to man up their horn arrangement, but thats not happened.
Any suggestions as to how I can rebuild my (sorry my vans) masculine ego? has anyone else found themselves (or their vans)wanting in this area?
But dont go too mad or ambitious please, Air Horns are a No No, as is Viagra:eek::)
Years ago I would have been on my bike to the nearest car breakers, and got change out of a tenner, but its probably E Bay nowadays.
Thanks aawffully
Les

You may find that your feeble peep is because one of your duotone horns has died and just needs replacing. However, for the same sort of price you can regain your manly horniness with a Stebel Nautilus. I fitted one to my other toy recently....L O U D.

4 and many as a tugger
Search ebay for compact air horn. The compressor is built into the horn, compact and loud.
They dont play a tune, just two tone. Cost about £10, Dont let the cost put you off, mine is now 9 years old and still as loud as ever.

Seeing as the prescribed use of the horn in the Highway Code “is to make other drivers aware of you presence” your usage sounded spot on.

I hope you gave him a suitable “explanation.”

I did but I never sounded the horn to be nasty or rude it was a warning , he would of hit my van if I did not sound the horn .

No idea what was going on in the van Lynne saw his wife grabbing and trying to turn the steering wheel .If he had just raised his hand and said sorry that would of been fine but he give me the finger as if I was in the wrong.

The horn in our Fiat is more than loud enough ... it doesn't sound that loud inside but I can assure you that outside it is ... when we're out of the camper and the dog decides to press it everyone knows about it! :D

Can't say that I have ever used my horn in anger - that's not what it's there for and brings into question the attitude of the driver. I have occasionally used it to warn another road user of my presence, as a short toot accompanied by a friendly wave, or on approaching a blind bend or emerging from a narrow driveway or alley with restricted visibility. A loud aggressive horn is the last thing I would want in those circumstances as it is more likely to encourage the wrong type of response.

@Deneb ... have you ever been to Italy? If not then you won't realise that you NEED a good horn there as there are so many idiots on the road.

Another vote the Stebel, I fitted one to our last van - a VW Camper, and I have one in the garage to fit to our 'new' van - as soon as the rain stops!

Yes I have, and I still never felt the need to use it in anger, only as an indication that I was there!

I'm not sure what using a horn to express anger or frustration achieves, other than the risk of escalating a situation to something even more undesirable. Having seen such situations develop to the extent that two otherwise normal members of society ended up in driving altercations involving assaults or in a few cases chasing and ramming each other off of the road and writing off both cars in the process I am left wondering what such aggression actually achieves.

I'll admit that I did sometimes get would up as a young driver, that's what youngsters do. But now I feel it is far more beneficial to my health and lack of stress to just take a deep breath and let the idiots get on with it. No skin off my nose and they'll probably eventually get their comeuppance when they pick on someone even more aggressive than them.

Same as us then ... but the horn DOES need to be heard.

But I doubt that every Italian driver has fitted uprated horns to their vehicles, even though they make plenty of use of the one that's there. If they'd started a "mine's louder than yours" race, where would you stop?

Never heard anything to match the foghorn effect on the original US import emergency vehicle lightbar systems we had in the 80's and early 90's though. ;)

The issue is that the OP has a 'quiet' horn, not a loud one, so either it's faulty or not up to the task of being heard when it is necessary to use it.

Or it sounds quieter inside the cab than it actually is, or he needs his ears syringing :D
