Aint that what the cruise control is for.. When we are on a long long straight road I just pop that on and go and sit in the back to have lunch with woman
I stick the dog in my seat to warn me of any impending danger

theres a tall tale out there that an american woman did just that and, of course, crashed.

She tried to sue the rv dealer for not explaining the cruise control limitations on handover.

Tal tale maybe....but we are talking american. :ROFLMAO:

the major advantage using the gearbox to slow down......you are already in an appropriate gear if the road conditions change suddenly.

Modern scenario....approaching lights at red using brakes and still in 3rd, 4th or maybe 5th gear and the lights change.
Not only are you concentrating on the lights and traffic, you're having to change to a suitable gear for the speed and conditions.....or just floor it in 5th and hope for the best .

Always both hands on the wheel. Old habits die hard. The man that taught me to drive had a little stick and if my hand went off the wheel other than changing gear I had sore knuckles. Evidence below.

Quite frightening really - that over 60% here think that is in some way acceptable to drive with only hand on the wheel :Eeek:

Cheers, Dave :thumb:
ps to all of you messing about with gearlevers, get an automatic, much easier, and less to worry about if you are in the right gear when slowing down "in case summat happens"

Accidents happen in a split second, whatever size of vehicle, power steering or not, a deep puddle, a pothole and you could lose it, far more chance of maintaing control with two hands on.

OK off my soap box :Eeek:
