120 miles from Calais the off side trailer bearing collapses .. Goes bang in a BIG way wrecking the bloody stub axle too
Had to get recover off the motor way
Plots up for the night.. Garage closed on Sunday
Another night and Monday morning told to return at 4pm
Returned at 4pm..
Sorry,,, 5 to 7 days..
Took a view and decided we would come home and return with a car to tow the trailer and smartie home next week.

Started for Calais
45 miles from Calais.. 5th gear goes bang and gearbox sounds like a bag of spanners has been dropped in it

Decided to keep going as best we can ( cannot make it worse !!! )
Managed to get it all the way home and arrived here at about half past midnight

All in all not a really great end to our time in Spain which was blighted any way because of absolute crap weather for all but about 10 days

So are we having fun ??

You make your own mind up !!

Taking a slightly positive slant, when I first read it I thought you had just arrived in France on your way down, at least you have been away

But then reading the weather bit, you might rather have saved the fuel costs

Good luck with the gear box repairs and repatriation of trailer (y)

Must have been Stepus. Did him out of his fun with your step and his revenge mighty.

Good luck with the repairs. Lets hope a nice easy standard fifth gear repair.

Our best wishes are with you for a swift and not too painful remedy..
It doesn't help, but, you ARE both unhurt and safely back home..
What repairer are you using for the G/Box repair ??

I have a smart car trailer 100yds of off the m2 in kent if needed

Dunno mate.. It will have to be a total replacement though as the gearbox housing is now cracked :-(
Got a local guy to sort it all out for me otherwise I would have to fork out for a low loader to get it somewhere !

Cheers for the offer.. But I would need a trailer big enough to take the smarty AND its trailer too !
Good news is that I can get a one day pass with P and O for £45 return..
So hopefully ( if I can borrow a medium sized diesel car with a hook ) the recovery will set me back about £130 all in ( plus the several hundred € the garage is gonna charge.. 200 € to start with for trailering the bloody thing just 3 miles :-( , 250 € labour ( to undo 8 bolts and refit ) and 205 € for a new indespension unit which is a total rip as they are less than £100 a pair !!! )

Just had a fone call ... The 6 speed box is a real pain in the parts to get hold of .. There are several options around but from very dubious people.. Looks like it is gonna come out at a tad shy of £1950 fitted

Thank you for the kind thought, but the car on it is the only car I have so really need it a little sooner..
I do have the bike for most of my transport needs but it can be a sod getting slightly larger stuff in the panniers !! LOL !!

I told you it was cheaper to take the ferry to Spain rather than drive there.

I think we would have been ok without the car and trailer on the back.. It was just too much for the poor thing :-~(

Thought you might !

If for any reason you have to retrieve the car without the trailer (hitch a lift with a southbound funster?) & the trailer is still there in May, the offer is still open. You will want the trailer as soon as the M/H is back on the road though, so I hope it doesn't come to that. You will be getting a bit desperate by May! :(
 
will def NOT be needing the trailer again !!
As soon as it gets home it will be sold on (complete with new parts :-) ) to off set the costs..
