:)Have motorhomed for three years now, and belonged to possibly, NO MAKE THAT DEFINITELY, the best M/H club by far for two years.:cool:
But having attended the large Rallies like Malvern, Peterboro etc for these last couple of years, I felt that, although good, they were possibly tooooo big.:whistle:
This year, although unable to attend a few Meets for various reasons, we were rewarded with fabulous Meets at Gweek(y), Dorset Norden Farm(y) and just recently Pembrey(y).
This is obviously a personal thing, but do I detect a growing trend towards the smaller Meets, where Funsters leave as friends, not just aquaintances. This was certainly the case at the three Meets mentioned above, and long may it reign.(y)(y)
How do other Funsters feel about the comments I've made ??

Hi Viv,
Have not attended any rallies yet so can't comment there but what I will say is that Jan and I thoroughly enjoyed Pembrey (next to you) and if that is the standard of smaller meets then it might be the way we will go (y). We will try a rally just to see............

Definitely. Though they do have their place.

Small ones, where you are part of a group not part of a crowd are so much more friendly, usually.

Usually is when we can all talk somewhere, so quite difficult in the winter.

3 vans in Southport, 5 in Morocco, 2 in Pembrey these were gems.

Hi Viv, the brilliant thing is we have the choice, of the big fun rallies like Malvern (I love that show) with the opportunity chat to new members in the marque and bacon roll Sunday, loads of Fun, catch up with old friends,

Then the smaller rally

The type we are off to tomorrow Haggers crazy meet :party2: Where it will be smaller American Supper lots of chat and catching up, I enjoy both and would be really disappointed if we did not have the variety , what makes FUN the club that it has become that it's big enough to cater for both, thanks to Jim and all the Funsters who go the extra mile to put the smaller meets on.

Hi guys yep I'm with you on that one the smaller ones wherever seem to be more fun ,don't get me wrong we like all the meets but over the years there is only so much you can absorb at the likes of malvern and p'bro .
On the other hand Stratford is a lovely place at any time of the year.but there and Shepton have become much smaller ,but so long as we all can drive away with that feel good factor this great. (y)
Hopefully back on the road soon

All meets have a place and although we don't do many we've never been to a bad one we're not keen on the big Motorhomeshow meets but I know loads of people love them and variety is the spice of life.
Small meets are certainly our favourites some of the best we've ever been to are the Status Quo meet at Eastnor Castle the Upton Music Festival, the Santa Pod meet the New Year meet at Uttoxeter races.

I had this discussion with another funster very recently. Both have their place and we will go to both but possibly not all of the really big ones next year (but probably will.......) looking forward to Brewery Dave's Gourmet Essex meet next month, for instance, simply because you get to meet an socialise with everyone. The big meets, you tend to mix with just a few....

.....oh and the food is going to be good as well as the company

I like the small rallies where everyone can fit under an awning. I also like the large ones where we fill a field like at the cotton Arms. How to decide....

We were rally / meet virgins this year and have done both big and small

I share your opinion totally, but still think we will do both in the future :)

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We don't do the Motorhome sales shop shows. Never fancied them. Anything we need for the Motorhome Ralph researches , then buys from where ever. We only do the ones organised by funsters, and the CCC rallies. Suits us fine.

The buzz around the pitch when 250 people are chatting away after eating a communal breakfast is great, sometimes people are still there chatting till early afternoon and meeting new people Also at large rallies its much easier to do your own thing, so If you feel like stopping in on Saturday night you can and no one bats an eyelid even if they notice, whereas if there were just a 3 van rally the others might think your ignoring them.

Small rallies of half a dozen where you can all do stuff together really are good fun, but so are those between 20 and 30 vans too. so thinking about it, for me size doesn't really matter, good company is good company, whether its 10 or 100 of you parked together.

Point taken Jim, It's just when you've met a couple of hundred people( how can you meet a couple of hundred people in a few hours, it's not speed dating !!), the brain can only absorb so much info...names , avatars, etc.
I'm not knocking the large meets, it's just a personal thing (shared witha few more Funsters).

The bigger the meet the better for me...

Imagine turning up at a small meet and discovering the three or four others hate Fray Bentos pies, call football "Wendy Ball" or worse still are "Reds" and all love Country and Western music....

Hell on earth!

Big or small, just have a ball,
pre-judge not, and find your feet,
enjoy the ride and then decide
just what's your perfect meet,
Attending lots, will be my goal,
as to one I've only been,
now my aims to go again,
of that I am quite keen,
chat away, or sing or play
remember not to shun,
cos if you do, you might forget
to have yourself some FUN,

As others have said we have never been to a bad meet.
Much easier to remember everyones names at a small meet and sit around and chat to everyone.
At the same time what a great atmosphere at the large meets like Malvern and Lincoln when everyone gets together.
Think we will just keep attending as many meets as possible and not worry about which is better.(y)

I think that the shows are too big and too impersonal IMO.
But only because Nikki and I end up stuck in someones van, stopped from leaving and then have alcohol forcefully poured down our throats ruining the whole weekend.

when we go to the smaller meets it's great, we get to forcefully pour alcohol down others throats and stop them from leaving.

no drinking for me this weekend and the continental meet though, off to the Dentist in a mo to see whats gone wrong with my treatment, looks like a nasty infection and im in agony.

I long since gave up trying to remember names after a first time meeting of someone any way..
Takes me at least 3 or 4 encounters afore a name sinks in ( lord knows why.. I meet a radio enthusiast once and can remember their call sign from that moment on.. weird !! )

I like the big meets.. Lots going on .. Small meets are ok too ( Such as Waldergraves for instance ) and we enjoy those just as much but for different reasons..

To be absolutely honest, we do make more effort to attend large thrash's than small ones

Personally I/we prefer smaller meets up to 20/30, Loved Shrewsbury / Stratford / Shepton / Dorset / Newbury. But having said that we haven't been to any of the big meets with fun, went to several with CCC , they just seemed to be impersonal & over crowded. ROCK ON FUN!!!!
Just to add BIG Thanks to Jim & Sian, Jez & lyn and all the stewards / helpers at all the meets big & small , Who with out there hard work none of the meets would be successful. !!

Our plans for next year:

Peterborough, Stratford, Malvern, Lincoln. 3 big shows plus one big rally, but due to the huge numbers, there are many that we simply don't meet enough, medics is a shame.

Smaller shows/meets to be confirmed but the French one looks good and we will be seeking out others to meet and socialise with as many as possible as the year develops. Much depends on the work situation
