I was planning to get away for a few weeks to Spain, just north of Madrid. But I've seen various reports in newspapers that the locals french and spanish don't want british people there on holiday.

I'm tempted to take this with a pinch of salt as it's mostly the usual suspect newspapers saying survey says ... has anyone come across any strongly voiced opinions from the locals. Don't really want to go off for a holiday and be unwelcome.

Thanks

Our friends have just come back to UK after being in Spain during lockdown and they certainly have not had any trouble or hassle😊

Have been in france since 15th on a gb plate. First 12 days in campsites.
Without any doubt whatsoever i am pleased to say that the french belgians dutch and germans have been very pleased to see us and been very engaging.
I saw a report floating on fb earlier similar to what you described but i didnt open it as from first hand info i know its a crock of sh1te

I've just nipped down to Calella for a few days and I think they would very much appreciate your business. Site was busy with locals at the weekend but during the week it was pretty quiet. They are rather more observant of the hygiene rules in Spain than France, certainly from what I experienced.

Friends of ours have just travelled from U.K. to France and headed south with no apparent problems.

Spain is quieter than normal inland....lots of Spanish motorhomes on the roads where we are....only seen one Dutch and one German van in past week, not saying where we are in fear of overcrowding...we haven't had any bad feeling shown towards us....we are in a Spanish reg. van.🙄👍

If there were animosity to UK-reg MHs we could be a target although we live in Poland and the MH has not been to UK since Aug 2019. I doubt we would get a chance to prove our Polish Residency.

i think if you read the guinea pig thread, you will see that a few of us have been over (and now back) without any issues, ive got 3 more days of bloody UK quarantine (according to the BBC, though i cant see it specifically mentioned on the UK gov website) but i will, on that basis, continue to self isolate until Monday

i am VERY interested, great bit of news ,,,, i am off out even though i cant think of anywhere i want to go .....

and i have ordered a delivery of two tonnes of gravel and 4 fence panels, which were going to keep me busy until monday, so i might not be going out just yet after all !!

They have cleaned it off, same as a few years ago, the one about nazi in the port, only difference is they caught them on camera, but it doesn't stop Germans buying here and starting a new life, there's always someone that's going to have a grudge. 🙂
Friends have just left camping Javea, apparently the swimming pool was packed, but no Spanish were using the shower blocks, so they had them to themselves. 🙂
On the Spanish motorhome forum, they have a few post being made to use campsites, they are not happy, some places have created temporary parking for motorhomers €5 and €10 if want to sleep there 48 hours max near beach no facilities, again not happy but then campsite fees are expensive now, and of course we have the mask thing going on, probably not for everyone at the moment, but your not unwelcome. 😁 Bob.

morning Bob,

yes, they forget who keeps the town thriving like it does. Imagine Spain with no tourists or holiday homes?.

our daughter is in the air en-route to our villa. It’s her 30th birthday gift from us (please refrain from ‘stay at home’ comments if you can).

I put the house up for rentals to a Spanish audience the last Thursday in June. By the Sunday I had sold 60% of the bookings. I now have 1 week in August left.

let’s see what transpires.

mum still wondering if I should apply for residency???????

I've noticed that it is almost exclusively one or two British posters on this forum (not in this thread but several others) who live in France who are perpetuating the myth that if the Brits go on holiday in their MOHO then the country will go to hell in a handbasket!

I get it that it's probably (mainly) British posters on this forum so French don't have a loud voice here, but in general, that attitude smacks of NIMBY-ism to me, I have seen similar on forums for Brits in Spain where, in my experience of the last few weeks, it's typically those who have been there <5 years who make the most noise. I've had a house in Spain since 2003 in a village where they have had 'not one' case of Corona infection, yet the locals are happy to see visitors return.

One poster on this forum (MHF) in particular constantly bangs on about how he stays in his house in France and has his van on the drive but wouldn't dare travel! I have little doubt that he or someone on his behalf goes shopping for him, so effectively, he is doing what he and others would do in a MOHO - isolate, only go out in the fresh air, shopping as it becomes essential and taking all measures necessary to be safe. Surely it's the same thing?

Does the fact that my isolation tank is a MOHO and it came from UK make it more prone to destroying reality as they know it than the one on their drive, or the house next door to them, or the one up the street? Is it that they believe anyone and everyone who lives in UK is already infected?

I don't have Corona, nor does my wife, I don't know anyone who has it or has had it and I've not spent time with or in the company of anyone who I don't know without full mitigation measures including distancing. That includes when in my home isolation tank or my MOHO isolation tank!

If I get it at a supermarket - even with all of the mitigation I put in place, then I suspect there is the same chance of that in UK or France or Spain! I've been away twice in the MOHO so far and did not integrate with anyone outside our group (bubble or whatever its called this week), so zero chance of contagion AFAIA! I'll be away again on Wednesday for 3 nights and again, I don't expect to meet anyone face to face, without mitigation and distancing (outside too).

I genuinely feel for people like these posters, based on the content of the posts they are making they are racked with fear and concern, that is as insidious at the virus itself.

BUT - to those who have been spreaders of fear and who can't reconcile the risk of infection with the opportunities for mitigation and self-protection - you've said your piece - you are scared I realise, I suspect most people will understand that and sympathise - now let it go and leave others to live their lives ...

Hi Trev, I'm not saying don't come, I'm pointing out the safety aspect on the whole are being carried out, although some restaurants and bars are very good, only you can decide, it hasn't stopped us going out, we went out Friday before we sat the waiter gave everyone a squirt on their hands, some places people leave the table and the next just sit down, hygiene is top of the list, we are off out this Friday for Janie's Birthday, again we know where we want to go and the one's we don't. 🙂
If a waitress has her mask under her chin, odds are other saftey measures are not in place, yes its unpleasant wearing a mask in this heat, and always good to get it off, but some places are over the 75% capacity and alcohol makes people forrget. 🤔
We have had loads of Spanish guests over the years, and never had any problems, although this year we decided to just do return guests, we have turned down many enquiries for personal reasons. 😁
We had French that exceeded and were found to be using airbeds, we refunded their following weeks booking, and told them pay the extra and rent somewhere who has a rental licence covers that amount of people. 🤔

Only you can decide if you want residencies, for us no regrets, but then we don't have anything in the UK, and want to spend more of our time here. 🙂 Bob.

We will be off to France (hopefully) end of this month-can’t wait!
We have isolated in the MoHo all this time and being in F will be no different for us. We will still go shopping, walking & sitting in the sun the only difference will be we will not be in the Uk! Our life will not change we will still SD and not go mixing with others!

We've been in France for a week, seems fairly normal apart from the masks in shops museums etc. Usual discussions with locals/travelers. Only seen one brit van and they obviously didn't want to talk, although our mh doesnt look like a brit one.

That was supposed to say "I am still wondering if to apply for residency"

Trev I think in France 'Residency' makes one liable to be taxed in France on all income.

In Poland I do not have that problem as all my income arises and is taxed in UK, and under Polish law only income arising in Poland is taxed here, and there is none.

A bit off-topic, admittedly, but under the Double Taxation Treaty with France, my UK Govt pension is taxed in UK and my UK State Pension is taxed in France. My Govt pension figure is taken into account when determining my French tax liability. Therefore about 75% of my income will always remain taxed in the UK.
I believe rental income from property owned in the UK also remains taxable in the UK.

Who has made temporary parking (near the beach)? And where? In Javea?

Unless you have net worth of 1.3 million euros then you are subject to wealth tax.
