My question is are they really watertight, and do these autosleeper with monocoque bodies really have less damp than others? Ive seen a nice one on ebay, and might convince the other arf, as he thinks they are a bit grannys parlourish, whereas i think i could just have it reupholstered,so if i could tell him they dont have damp i might sell it to him ?

Wasn’t @old-mo‘s last one one of those, his sprung a leak

They are still able to leak ...its fibreglass and sometimes with age it cracks or develops what they call starring so you get star shaped hairline cracks. And of course they also have skylights like any other motorhome and those can also leak in time when the sealant gets old and cracks. Basically any motorhome is able to leak but they are certainly less likely than those of a similar age with screwed on seams round the edges etc.

They have always been a bit grannies parlour inside but not a big job to reupholster them if you get a good one.

I had an autosleeper trophy on the vw base and while the upholstery was horrific the conversion quality and design was fantastic

So overall if you find a good one in good condition and keep it that way they are good vans

We started with a Clubman GL - lovely ‘van, but too small for us and four dogs.....! It did leak, but only around the rear widow seals when driving in pouring rain - replacing the seals would’ve helped, but we only kept if for less than a year before buying something bigger.....;)(y)

We had one a few years back and I needed to remove and reseal every window, as they were all leaking round the seals. Not a huge job, I just was not expecting it.

Yip. Wake up Auld Yin!
old-mo ?

Yes........ Mine sprung a leak over a period in lockdown, which went unnoticed for many months.. :frowny:

But had I noticed early enough and fixed it would not have been so bad..

There are only add on`s that can cause a leak, and mine was the aerial seal had dried out or not been sealed properly in the first place.. But did a lot of unseen damage..:crying1:

Easy fix caught quickly and would not of been so bad had I noticed... But.... The buyer did..
