I’m hoping someone has the answer as I need to decide by tomorrow morning wether to buy a new campervan. It has diesel heating but a gas water heater. This would be a German import so I would be grateful for any reliable information as I don’t want to bring a new campervan in the UK and find out I cannot get any 3kg propane gas bottles for it!

According to the Calor website the smallest is 7kg - but without one to swap I doubt any size is available.

Edit: Sorry talking rubbish😩. But there is a supply issue at present.

Does it only have room for that size cylinder?

Gaslow do a 2.7kg refillable cylinder

Thank you. I will talk to the dealer about that.

Some great input so far, thanks. Are LPG refillable stations available throughout Europe?

Sweaty pants time as I’ve put an order for the van. I have however a 4 weeks cooling period if It is not possible to do a LPG conversion as the gas cabinet is in an awkward position. There may just be the space to make the LPG connecting hole at the end of the kitchen cabinet rear panel where it meets the fly screen brush. The gas locker is under the kitchen sink. 45A06486-B5CD-4183-AE55-D608C5B26D72.jpegE4F9C57F-507C-4F47-93D4-ABFE82B093C5.jpeg

I'm afraid you are going to come into some adverse comments soon, about airtight gas cupboards and gas drop outs.

I welcome any constructive comments as I am still on the stand at Caravan Salon. The door is sealed and there is an evacuation grill on the floor. I know Germans don’t go for LPG as much as in Britain but I hope German safety standards match UK ones. The diameter of the bracket on the floor to hold the bottle is 22cm.

I thought ALL gas lockers and areas had to have gas drop vents. The only things that don’t are boats. But they aren’t blowing up every 5 mins.

Yes ,sorry mate hadn't seen the slots in the white thing on the floor, and it certainly looks big enough for a normal propane.

And they'd be sinking every 5 minutes if you did drill a drop vent!

The rules for LPG on boats is actually much stricter than on road vehicles, as LPG is heavier than air and will collect in bilges and get to an explosive concentration pretty easily.

Yes I know. That’s my point.

BTW, what do you actually mean by "do a LPG conversion". It already appears to have LPG appliances.

You could fit up to a 7.5kg Safefill with those dimensions available. Diameter 307mm, height 490mm. You could almost fit a 11kg Gaslow, but it would probably be too tight for comfort.
So a 6kg calor would also fit. You are going to use very very little gas if just hob.
Thank you, encouraging comments! The brochure says 3kg gasvorrat though. The model at the show is a prototype and the brochure has been rushed through so the salesman told me there could be changes. I had planned to buy another camper but when I saw the price of this one I took a closer look and put an order in! A Clever Vans from the Pössl Group with a killer price tag! Probably the cheapest van at the show with a 2 year waiting list now🙁31CDC2DF-B519-4F96-B29B-E4E62AFDA799.jpeg

The cabinet is for a propane gas bottle. There is no external outlet for a LPG refill.

It appears to me that the size of the gas locker is reasonable for a pvc, and there are a few options of a cylinder to fit in there. Unslung and that cupboard for storage would be the best.
Another option maybe a safefill cylinder, I don’t know the sizes of them.

Ah. The Safefill bottle wouldn't need that. You can remove it from the vehicle for refilling, although many petrol stations won't allow it, thinking you're filling up a rented bottle, which is dangerous and illegal.

Other refillable bottle typically do have the ability to run an external fill point.
