Afternoon all, do you use Aqua Kem or any cheaper alternatives? Seems to be getting more expensive!

Biological laundry detergent, I favour Persil. Rinse the cassette as usual and add a drop of water and a drop of detergent. You can also keep some in a squirt/spray bottle in the bathroom to freshen the toilet with.

Really. It works far better than the bespoke chemical products - but it must be bio detergent.

Yep really. We use Formil Bio laundry detergent from Lidl and have done for a few years now. Breaks down the solids and smells nice. And much better for the environment.

You will need to clean your toilet thoroughly before using it for the first time otherwise the residual biocides in the Aquakem will kill the enzymes that make the laundry detergent work. For the same reason we use watered down Formil in a spray bottle to clean the toilet bowl as well.

I was doubtful at first, but with our new pvc it seemed a good time to try it - no having to thoroughly wash out the toilet tank. Yes it works very well - much better perfume than the old blue stuff! I still use the diluted pink stuff in a spray bottle. I'm using the bio liquid but when it's all used up, I'll get bio tabs. One per "fill" apparently.

Aldi bio washing sachets for me with diluted pink in spray bottle instead of flush to make cassette last longer.

Yay it's a toilet thread

We use bio, Formil if we can get it. You need to persevere if you've already poisoned your system with Thetford blue. Even if you think you've rinsed it all out it still takes a few emptying before it's pernicious influence is completely gone.
The pink as a rinse is OK but make sure it's well diluted as it can stain. Thetford seem to go overboard on their colourings. Diluted bio will do as well and we are currently using Tesco everyday shower spray and that seems OK too. Just a bit of dilute detergent really but the Tesco one is already in a spray bottle.
