I want to watch content downloaded to my iPad from Netflix, iPlayer etc on my Avtex TV screen. It seems I need a Digital AV TV adaptor connecting via the lightning port to HDMI on the TV. So far, so good. However, it seems 3rd party adapters don’t work e.g. screen freezes on Netflix downloads, iPlayer doesn’t work at all, but Youtube is ok. I’m told that purchasing a genuine Apple product will solve the problem, but before I shell out £50 can anybody confirm (from experience) that will be the case?

Hi, I have a genuine Apple adaptor but apps like all4 do not support playing through the adaptor. I think they do this deliberately to stop using the iPad as a player which is a shame.

Thanks, but are you talking about streaming or downloaded stuff? How about iPlayer?

I believe that this will be the third time that I have advised you that a genuine Apple Lightning cable will work.

My apologies, must have missed your response.
In fairness, your experience is contradicted by others, so just checking. Thanks anyway

i can play video from apps such as Plex itunes etc but not all4 such as F1,
ITV etc but cannot comment on iPlayer, i Have not tried playing video directly from the browser. I understand it’s something the app itself is configured to support or not. However to add complexity I was not streaming to a TV just a monitor

Had problems with third party HDMI adaptor and Ipad, so bit the bullet and splashed out on the genuine Apple one and it works faultlessly.

As already said buy the genuine kit but even then some things are not compatible.

I have one to stream from Netflix and prime, works perfectly.

It’s a copyright/ license thing why some tv apps won’t let you play content via cables or Wi-fi to a tv.
I’ve got an Apple TV and some stuff won’t stream to that either.

I have a genuine Apple HDMI Convertex and have used it to display downloaded stuff from my iPad to my Avtex TV (iPlayer, Netflix, not tried any of the others).

dont download to your ipad? download to a hard drive/usb stick?

Maybe, but a bit of a faff as I’ve got the VPN set up on the iPad for overseas downloads/streaming.
I’ve followed the welcome advice on here and dug deep into my pockets, £50 for the genuine item!

I think I have tried all adapters an none work with iPad or Samsung galaxy. So, I bought a Chromebook just before Christmas and it has everything I need from an app perspective. I had a list of criteria i.e. BBC iPlayer, ITV hub, Netflix, Amazon prime and BT sport and I can get all on the Chromebook. Connect Chromebook to Avtex with HDMI cable and all good. Films run from external hard drive through Chromebook to TV. No more mucking about, it all works perfectly well. Good luck (y)

Arrived this morning and it works! Netflix ok, iPlayer ok, ITV hub ok, All4 not ok.
Tested on Samsung Smart TV not Avtex yet, but shouldn’t be any difference (I hope).

I have an iMac and iPod which I want to use to view video from my drone, the iMac is fine to receive the input from the card but I could not view on my DJI goggles as the input needed a special have apple to HDMI mini cable, I bought an adaptor for lightning but nothing comes out from it to the HDMI output. I now have a cable from Singapore and it works well with the goggles from the iMac and couples direct with. nothing needed other than coupling it up with said cable. The lightning to HDMI does sod all.

This may sound simplistic or thick, but can you use a smart tv in your van through your WiFi abroad ?
