Is it just me? Tried doing a simple calculation using the calculator that is native to I-phone and it gave way out result so tried a few others and they also give strange results e.g 40+40÷2= and it gave the result 30!
I tried to find how to tell this to Apple but they want me to pay to contact 'support' desk

Weird! I just did 40 + 40 ➗ 2 and got 60!

I think it see's this as 40 add (40/2)

I just got the same result, until I did 40+40 = and then divide by 2 and I got the right answer.

Strange.

It started out by trying to get £4.99 add £2.45 and divide by 2 which Jean was trying to do on hers. It gave 6.215!

Apple calculator must use BIDMAS which would be the division before the addition. Need to press the equal sign after each part of the calculation to get the correct answer. Not a great idea on Apples part. My IPad does the same thing but my cheap school £1 calculator makes it 40 .

Mathematic priority. Without parenthesis all calculations should be done in the order mult/div/add/sub

Most processors will work this way

Android native app wins again.......

Any length sum you want and only one = at the end.

452+452÷47×25+3−125=570.4255319149

40 + 40 / 2 does = 60. I can't believe that the Apple calculator gets this right. Normally Apple try to be helpful even if it means doing things the wrong way.

If you want to include a mix of +/- and * or / then use parenthesis.

you are probably expecting the answer to be 40? If so you need to do
(40+40)/2

When you use parenthesis the calculator will do the calculations in side first then use this result in the rest of the calculation. Otherwise multiply and divide take priority.

Ha ha, I was about to say 'thank goodness for calculators!' then I realised we wouldn't have this thread if it was that easy

Just done the same calc on my old none-smart, none android samsung phone.......same result 40+40÷2=60

So if you turn your android on its side you get a load more controls including parwthesis. If you want to mix multiplication or division with addition or subtraction you need these

All computer based calculator s use a calculation order.

Senior moment Matty? :ROFLMAO:
Not this time, just realised that the reasoning for the answer had been given a couple of times previously. I'll save my senior moments for .... what was I writing?
