For those who travel to/within Spain, some very good news.....

The new Minister of Public Works within the new Government of Spain has just announced today to the Spanish press that all the present tolls on the AP7 "Mediterranean corridor" motorway from Alicante all the way up to Tarragona will definitely finally cease when the currently running extension to the contract with the private Company operating the motorway comes to an end on 31st December 2019.

From 1st January 2020, the present "AP7" toll sections of that A7 motorway will come back into Government control and will all be toll-free to travel on.

Two other toll-motorways elsewhere in Spain will also become free to use when their present commercial concession expires in the coming year: the AP-1 between Burgos and Armiñón, and the AP-4 between Seville and Cádiz.

Is that for all vehicles or just commercial vehicles.

About time ... the problem is that there aren't that many 'good' roads so if you don't use the motorways you end up going on slow roads and/or through lots of villages which isn't ideal for them as they get loads more traffic which causes chaos.

Not many good roads....we haven't used a Spanish Toll road for more than 10 years, the network of Autovias is perfectly adequate to get us around, with the AP7 becoming free will be a big saving to the many Funsters who travel this route.....

Sort of begs the question - why are we still paying for dartford?

Whats particularly mad is that toll-free dartord would cost very little to run, yet the Woolwich ferry which has staff and fuel costs is free!!!

Then why dont they make broken motorways, one s which are all ready in their control, ie Alicante to Almeria AP7, free now!
Or is this politicians making promises.

One of the reasons for the woolwich ferry is for the army to use.
The Dartford crossing was supposed to be free when paid for but I think was sold to the frenchies.
If they can run it for a profit, why can't we?
Removal of barriers doesn't seem to have helped the queues.

I have to ask, what part of Spain have you been to?

Whenever we go, (and wherever too,) all we see are roads that have been straightened, improved, widened and uprated.

Their roads leave ours, (especially down here in the South West,) for dead.

All over it ... up and down the East coast a few times, round the bottom, up the middle ... not covered it all of course, but in 3 years done quite a bit in our 3 x 7 weeks holidays.

Its that long ago I have forgotten when I last used a toll motorway, anywhere. Also during the last year I have stopped using any motorways except in the UK and after yesterdays fiasco stuck on the M62 for 2.5 hours without turning a wheel am thinking along the lines of not using them in the UK.
