Anyone use an e scooter for getting around the campsites, Shop, Chippy ect UK or EU ? If so, can you Recommended one for a 16st Adult ? Asking for a Friend you Understand !

We were recently at Gowerton C&MC and three youngsters were zooming around on “hoverboards” made into tiny go-carts with the addition of a metal frame with a seat. Absolutely brilliant but probably unsafe and not legal. I was very jealous!

Be careful. Only legal if on hire on public roads - trialled on some towns and cities. Not sure how sites insurance would view them.
Or if on private property - like a site. Why would a site view it any differently to someone on a bike or roller skates? It can't go faster than a bike.

To anser the OP - I am very familiar, ahem, with 16st individuals. I have used a Xiaomi scooter for the past two or three years for final mile commute to and from work by train. They are brilliant - great speed and battery life. Light enough to carry for short distances. I've never had an issue using it (considerately) on pavements and roads - indeed in the early days the police outside Lime St station in Liverpool used to ask me about it.

It can do 15mph and reasonable inclines. Always wear a helmet and behave as if you were on a bike.

I thought I was the bees knees on it, as an early adopter. Then one day I was buzzed by a chap on an electic unicycle type thing. Now *that* was cool.

Unfortunately campsites have been held to be public places (it is about access not ownership and several reported cases with mixed outcomes) so insurance could be required to ride the e-scooters. Use a mobility scooter and they are exempt almost everything!

As above, anywhere the public has access is a public place even if privately owned.

I own one and have used it in France.

I deliberately bought one that was 250 watts and couldn't go above 15.5mph as I suspect as and when they create a law they may use as similar or like figures for ebikes

Many sites also have speed limits posted, often 5mph on Club sites. Enforcement is however very lax.
Walking is best imo.

Having been hit (once) and narrowly missed (umpteen times and mostly thanks to me jumping out of the way) by mobility scooters I dread e-scooters being made legal. I believe at least one person has already been seriously injured by a "legally hired" one.
Despite the hazard, I can understand the justification for mobility scooters - try as I might I can't think of one for e-scooters. Exercise is good for you!

I think they just need to be allowed to use the same areas as bikes not pedestrians. And then enforced.

Some sites are starting to stipulate no e scooters among other rules on the blurb
Good for them! I think sites should stipulate that e-scooters are banned the same way that some sites are "Adult Only" or "No Dogs". Penalty of infraction? Instant eviction!
As you may have gathered I can't stand the things and, having had an unscheduled stay in a cardiac ward, I think they should be banned for health reasons.

Now that sounds like pure idle, at 16st you need to start walking a friend told me so…..

Interesting article, anti social use in the UK. Am I surprised no.

Moot point here if only Members of a Club, or only those having a reservation on a private site, have 'access' as to whether that constitutes the 'Public', although I have no access to case law at present and it may never have been decided in a higher court, thus creating a Precedent.

These are good. Waterproof too so if you get caught out in the rain you're still okay.

I know they are illegal but it gives some people a reason to moan so everyone's a winner.

As long as you are sensible using it i cant see any difference to a push bike, My wife uses a mobility scooter and it has opened my eyes how inconsiderate people are as she feels invisible when using it.:banghead::banghead::banghead::swear::swear:
I have just fitted a car horn on it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Wardens on a couple of C&CC sites we’ve been on recently we’re using e-scooters to get around and show members to their allocated pitches…..

DPP v Vivier 1991 is probably a relevant case.

We were on a site in Bavaria and the warden went around on an old Honda Buzz with a home made sidecar attached to it, looked a useful little thing !

Stayed on a Haven site, to conform with the regulations that were in force at the time we had separate statics from the other members of the family. He had taken an e-scooter very useful to pass things between to two vans which were a long way apart. And ,yes I had a go even if am over 16stone,and probably overage 😃😀

Pre covid when staying on sites abroad, sometimes it’s a long walk to choose your pitch and back to reception only to find the pitch you’ve chosen has just been booked….I think whizzing around on a escoot would be brilliant! I did try one out but my balance is appalling.

Check out decathlon they have them. As to using them on sites, I personally don’t think it will be a problem as long as you are careful and considerate. No different to all the kids rushing around on bikes, gyrscopes and hoover things. Go on live a little.

Many of us have ebikes, myself included. Provided that an escooter is used and subjected to the same restrictions I can't see why there should be any difference.

It's all about common sense and consideration for others. That includes the riders and pedestrians.
