Has anyone tried Saga for an insurance quote recently? I'm currently searching for the best deal for our new to us MH which we should be picking up in 2 or 3 weeks time. 2008 Swift Bolero. New to motorhoming but we've both been driving cars for more than 40 years, no convictions, no claims for years. GoCompare gave me quotes varying from £200 to £350. Saga quoted £1267 for OH, £1800 for me!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

Anyone had a similar experience?

You must have been 'confused'.... that quote was to BUY Saga...... obviously........(;0)

We insured through COMFORT it is an AVIVA policy, best quote we could find it is specialist motorhome insurance. Ours is about 240 for a brand new MH fully comp.
Hope this helps

We pick up new van in July , have been getting quotes , NFU ,lv insurance both seem good value

GoCompare quotes yesterday ranged from £200.20 from Staveley Head to £367.81 from Comfort. Don't think we'll be going with Saga:):)

We are with nfu now, not the cheapest but about half saga wanted off us to renew , nfu office in town ,go in and wear them down , no daft rules and regs just straight insurance and you know we're they are when you need them.
Mind you maybe a bit biased as I have been with them off and on most of my life through the farm.

No used them for insurance, but had European recovery with them, brilliant service paid every bill I sent to them except petrol& meals.

Down side, I am now sinking with junk mail from them !!!

WHAT??!!! Have you asked them why they are quoting so high? Where do you live? Gaza Strip?
My MH is insured with Saga: £240.35, and that includes their optional Legal protection (£27) and Saga breakdown assistance (£71.95)
But it would be interesting to know how they arrived at such an astronomical quote!

I'm assuming a number of reasons.... although we've caravanned for more than 30 years, we've never had a motorhome; although we've had motor insurance for more than 40 years, we have no motorhome NCD. Having said that, this same info went into GoCompare yesterday when I got their quotes. Ever since Chris reached 50, I've checked Saga for every type of insurance quote - house, caravan, cars - and always found them way more expensive than anything else. "Cheap insurance for the over 50s". It's a joke:mad::mad:

We've only had our motorhome for two years, and my first quote with Saga was similar to this year's premium. As for no-claims discount: Saga applied my car NCD to the new policy - I though this was normal. I know you are only assuming, but I would have asked them why, when one company quote £xxx, is theirs so disproportionate.

I get a silly quote from Saga every year - £110 fully comp, protected NCB.

Don't bother shopping around :)
I have seen you say this before, how do you manage to get it that low

I once got a car insurance from Saga many moons ago. I remember it was well over double anyone else and since then I have cost them a fortune in junk mail for every form of insurance under the sun.
I have been told they are very good by users but for me Aviva have been 5 star and a whole lot cheaper. When we get the motorhome my first call will be the Aviva associated company.

I suppose because 'Shirley' is 20 years old?

We both also have our cars insured with them and the prices are very competitive for those too. If I get a better quote, they can usually match it :-)

Always had a good deal from saga, about £280 inc legal and European breakdown. However when we moved house last year to a lower insurance post code the van went up to over a thousand pounds, So numerous phone calls to Saga and they insisted this was correct dispite my other two cars insured with Saga went down. Finally I spoke to someone with a brain who immediately realised that the girl had entered an 'O' instead of a nought on the post code thus throwing the whole system in meltdown.
Result a credit payment for the trouble and a lower quote for the van

but I would have asked them why, when one company quote £xxx, is theirs so disproportionate.
What a difference 12 yrs NCD makes! £422.35. Still the highest, but no longer in the stratosphere(y)

Safeguard for me

Just tried saga for house insurance -best on go compare but when directed to their site its goes up to double,
Also tried car insurance -same happened again =double plus when on the saga website.
=problem now is I'll be getting all the saga junk mail:(

I have my car insured through Saga, it was the cheapest by far, but none could match the motorhome quote I got from C&CC.

I used to Insure my R-V through the NFU?. but I thought they had given up Motor-home insurance altogether?

Pete

Always insure through Saga £226. Occasionally they try to put it up, but after a bit of arguing they keep the quote the same

I insure through Saga, mine went down to £220 with legal cover, last year £247.

We are with Saga and it is very reasonable. Cheapest I found when I shop around.

When I've had quotes from Saga they have been comparable with Comfort. Comfort's policy is a net policy no NCD, with Saga did you ask if they would mirror your cars NCD, most companies will do this.

SAGA seem to assume because you are beyond the first flush of youth you have a bottomless pit of spare cash.

They are the same with all their insurance products.

... and it was the reverse for me: C & CC could get nowhere near my Saga quote. It's just down to the funny old world of motor insurance.

Saga are in the Times today with costs of 5 times that of other insurers on compare sites.
Having 'just renewed' for many years with insurers including Saga, I have recently tried the compare sites & for like for like cover, it has made a many hundreds of pounds difference (cheaper) to various vehicle insurances.
Moral of the story - do something don't believe the insurance blurb of you are special etc.'

Regards

Arthur.

I would never use Saga again - after being with them for many years for all sorts of insurances, we changed our 'van. Rang Saga to do a simple "change of vehicle" and were told "sorry, we cant insure that van, it's too new". We then had to go elsewhere at short notice. Not a good experience. We have now cancelled everything we had with them.

Saga wouldn't quote me for insurance. They admitted that it would uncompetitive!
Have just left Comfort for AIB.
