Hi All. Anyone postponing their Portsmouth Santander Ferry?

A never heard of failure occurred on our Motorhome Scooter when a valve collet broke, yeah, I'd not heard of it either! Long/short is repair will not be done by next Monday so have postponed our Ferry until repair is done but unfortunately next available space is FEBRUARY 17th!! If anyone out there has also been stymied by an unfortunate event and are postponing a crossing prior to that date could we liaise so I can nab your crossing please. Naturally, I do not wish misfortune on anyone but if I could rescue myself from my personal disaster it would be appreciated. Thankyou.

Keep checking online. There was a space for us ( 7.5 metres) this morning for Feb 6 with an inside cabin.( We didn't book it) They come available all the time

I'd lose all the money I'd paid and as I'm a pauper, or maybe a Scrooge I'm trying to rearrange
We've just been offered Jan 30 th with an inside cabin, again we didn't book it as a certain person flatly refuse to have an inside cabin.

We rang and the lady went through all the sailings( we have one booked in Feb)
She offered us the 30 th and nearly offered 20 Jan but motorhome was just too long.

I dont think you would, unless things have changed BF are pretty good about changes. pre covid they let us swap santander for Caen and then hold the difference long enough for us to use it.
These days we tunnel and drive because wife is not a good sailor and I enjoy the drive and the flexibility, still havent booked our outbound and we're going next week.

When Covid hit, March 2020, we had flown to Spain. Easyjet cancelled our flight and suggested we turn up at the airport for a free for all, with no guarantee we could get a seat.

I told Mrs. ET we were going to load up our car and drive back to the UK. I didn't fancy driving through France. BF's Bilbao-Portsmouth on Cap Finistere was FULL. I kept trying every 15 mins to an hour for two days. Until a Cabin came free. It was an outside cabin thank god as we were confined to our cabins.

People re-arrange all the time on BF as a lot of us book or are offered FLEXI.

So just keep trying

I'm looking the other way , dont fancy driving back to the tunnel but cant find a dog cabin for the way back .

Thanks for everyone's replies, suggestions and humorous quips, as suggested, persistence paid off and I've rebooked for 30th Jan...a little later than I'd wish but at least I'll be able to get my tax return done 😁 Thanks again

I thought that travel legislation said, IF there was a cancellation with the airlines, the carrier was responsible to get you on the next available flight, whoever that might be.
Does that legislation not also apply to ferries??

It was me who cancelled and they did offer me the next available crossing but 17th Feb was a bit late for my plans

They should have given you the option of travelling to Bilbao, I would have thought, were they all full too?
I hope you put in a compensation claim (they can hardly claim that a broken engine is an 'Act of God' )

Portsmouth -Bilbao is summer only unfortunately they did offer a ferry to France but as that's less expensive I'd have lost the difference. I'm happy as it's all sorted now and scooter back on the road this week

Ironically it's 30th we've rearranged for

Does SWMBO realise that the inside cabins move less than outside in rough weather? Think Biscay!

My wife won't have an inside cabin because of her claustrophobia.
First time we went she had a meltdown because she thought a lifeboat was directly Infront of the window, it wasn't thankfully.

Fair enough it was just a thought. Thankfully we all have different priorities or we'd all want the same cabin!

Weather is another problem, we are booked pet cabin 4th of may, if the weather forecast is bad we won't be going.
So could be some last minute tickets going cheap. ::bigsmile:

We are out on the 5th😁😁
Luckily its only 30 hours of being sick if it’s rough🤢🤢

The last time we used the Galicia, (last Winter) we got a Hull (sic) of a shock as they have put a**********
(don't know how to describe this) on the outside wall and although you know it's a bolted on image of a
Balcony Door looking out onto a mirror calm sea, I should imagine that it would certainly help someone
who is claustrophobic in accepting an inside cabin.

Next time you're on the ship, have a look.

PS. The light can be switched off at night!!!

You wouldn't get her on the ship if she knew it was inside, even if it came with a fully stocked bar. :ROFLMAO:

That’s exactly why we’ve booked an inside cabin and if it’s rough I don’t want to be looking at it every glance through the porthole. The lower the deck and nearer the centre the better too.

Once crossed the Atlantic in heavy storms all the way, then a hurricane, and it’s not nice, even for a seasoned sailor. I had to wedge Sharon in the bed with a life jacket under the mattress when I went on watch 😜

The Galicia finally got off, a day late, from Santander around 1100 local time today. Checking the weather there are 5m waves on the port beam and winds of around 40 knots, about gale force 8, but she’s making 19 knots herself so doing well I think.

I wouldn’t want to be looking at that sea through my cabin window or up at the highest part of the ship as she heels over if I had a choice not to.

When our friends who are onboard come to us I hope they don’t frighten Sharon off sailing, she has been in much much worse for days but that was 43 years ago at this same time of year. 😜

We sailed from Portmouth to Santander on the Galicia last October with the dog and only had the option of an inside cabin. But, actually, the way they’ve decorated the cabin with the false window is surprisingly effective both during the day and at night. Sorry about the messy cabin.
