enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
this looks ideal for a bot of wild camping on your own land, all we need is 5 of us at 3k each ......

The answer is no to this one but intrigued so will be watching thread to see if you get some interest.

Dont quite know what I would be looking for, or where, or what type of land. But I am intrigued

Keep looking mate, there are far cheaper bits of land than this.
There maybe cheaper, but quality, ambiance and location may be equally important to some.

Sounds good, might be interested with more info on what's required, on 2nd thoughts I will pass. Would be too boring staying in one spot .

It’s here...

€12k is not a lot, you could stay for a few months, plenty of sporting possibilities like fishing, kayaking, paddle boards and your own swimming pool...
There is a house been built next door on a new plot so that’s set a president for planing....?
Campsite up the road for refreshing your services....
Plus you’ll probably get your money back in 5-10yrs...😊

Flood risk?

I think the one in the OP might be a better option being next to the river ?
Flood risk to be checked of course (y)
Might not be the same with a river, but there are lots of rules and regulations about what you can and can't do with lakes.

Vehicle access would need checking but it look a lovely area and lots to do.
Food for thought ???
Thanks for posting MisterB

I have always fancied some land near to Chanaz by lac de Bourget along the canal which looks like this, some of them have little huts on and it backs onto the canal. No problem with floods. Easy access for vehicles (after you have created it. About a days hard slog from Calais.

Or
Yeah , really you have got to get over there and have a look round, been looking at these sort of places for years, but too old now to think of buying one, but the same old thing always comes into my mind, " do I really want to come back here every time".
With a motorhome and free Aires in France you don't actually need to buy anything for holidays, you can either go to the same place every time for free, or change your mind and go somewhere else.
If you are thinking of living there permanent, that's a different thing.

It is very tempting but there are practicalities to think about such as who will look after it when you're not there (grass cutting etc), are there any rules that mean you cannot stay overnight, some are only for 'garden' use and not other leisure stuff.

Also don't forget about the fees etc on top of the purchase price.

It's easy to get caught up in a 'dream' but due diligence must be done carefully.

...... the same old thing always comes into my mind, " do I really want to come back here every time".
Exactly.
25 years ago, having been attracted by years of motorbike camping throughout Europe I decided to buy a campervan (a Romahome), primarily to facilitate my search for a holiday/weekend place in France.
I enjoyed the m/home roaming so much I abandoned that plan.

" do I really want to come back here every time".
Thats the big question really isn't it.
Unless there was some compelling reason or other ties to the area, you probably wouldn't want to.
Still an interesting thought though and as you say, probably wouldn't lose money on it when selling in a few years

Don't expect too many positive comments from Funsters here...

...do expect many comments about all the possible pitfalls.

I am not saying it is right...

It is just the way things are.

(I think it is a great idea... love the water front feature.)

Rather than be negative about other funsters why not give some positive comments about the reality of living on a piece of land.

I am not knocking the idea , as I said I have thought about it for years and just giving my view , and you do actually live on your piece of land not just use it for holidays.

I bought a small orchard/plot of land in central Portugal to have somewhere to park up whenever I wanted.

Do I want to keep going back the same place all the time?

You bet I do... it is paradise to me.

But as I just posted , you live there, the op was saying just for holidays.

Good point but...

I often "live" elsewhere too...

The joy of fulltime motorhoming.
